Now That's Gundam.

Speaking of Turn A, just getting around to watching it, anyone else creeped out by the intro name saying "Turn A Gundam" & it's funny to watch a show that was made with the y2k bug in mind.

You know I kinda hope that this doesn't connect to Turn A or any other Gundam series. It seems like Tomino has a bit of freedom with this series and I think it would be interesting to see what he can do. Also from his various statements in the last few years it seems he wants to try something new with Gundam, which I would like to see too.

I mean let's take OO, the first season had this rather interesting mixture of topical influences and an ambiguous morality. Then season 2 became a Zeta rehash with touches of Char's Counterattack.

Now I know the specter of Gundam is looming, which can easily overshadow the production. But I hope that we get something transformative, that proves the legacy doesn't need to limit a story but can be vehicle for new ideas. In a weird twist Gundam has become what it set out to change. And like the characters in the story, the franchise is repeating the same actions as their predecessors just perpetuating a never ending cycle.

Though honestly I expect nothing less from Gundam. In show that is about the evils of war, we glorify the weapons.

There's a lot of weird things about Turn-A really. There's a sort of odd gender-oddity about it (it seems to want to empower females but can't. Shoulda just written Rolan as a female). There's a lot of disjunction between steampunk and Gundams and Space travel. Also, when the Turn-A still wasn't treated as a harbinger of Apocalypse with the Moonlight Butterfly it was walking around with a nuke inside it.

Ugh, linking it to turn a would be a bad idea.

Though it would be interesting to see how they lost the skill for diplomacy and understanding of other people. (My constant annoyment with turn a is that the sides won't talk to eachother realisticly until they go to the moon)

I do have hopes for Conguista though.
I'm just hoping they won't add any moe, judging by the art style.

Why would it be bad? Frankly, they might as well et away from what has been tread over. In the past decade, we got Seed and Wing, retreads of 0079 and Zeta. Gundam 00, I don't know of that, could be a retread of something else. Beyond that, the OVAs are varied to retreads. Age is its own thing ,and Build Fighters is more like Beyblade, but I seriously hope that this Gundam takes from something different that isn't connected to what has been animated so far unless it is obscure.

Therefore, Turn A would be a great move if not a prequel of the Crossbone universe, which is pretty awesome.

I'm excited to see where this goes, knowing Tomino Reconguista will be set some time in the Universal Century. I plan on picking up the first volume of Gundam Origin because it's only $20 on Amazon.ca.

On a semi-related topic, anyone know what's up with the licensing rights of the Gundam series in North America? Its guaranteed to sell well if these series were ever released on DVD or Blu-Ray, these companies are missing out
