Penny Arcade have been pretty vocal on how bad a game they think Lair is. It's never really impressed me much, but from all word seemed to suffer through developement.

Anyway, they point out this GT Review to sum up what they think of the game:

EDIT: Wow, I just watched... I never sat through a GT Review before, but they're really well done. They break down the different aspects of the game and score them seperately. Never thought I'd be able to see someone meet the match of XPlay's reviews, but this does and 1ups them by giving the review just more detail and depth.

My inner fanboy is very happy that Lair is a bad game...but the part of me that's rational is actually pretty sad. It looked awesome.

Aw...you little Xbots are so cute! :anime:

Lair is absolute crap. Thankfully I didn't have to waste money renting or God forbid buying it, but a friend did. It's somewhat pretty, but everything is way too dark and it's hard as hell to see what you're supposed to be doing. The motion controls are just OK, but really blow when you aren't in a wide open area to fly around. Hard to believe this is from Factor 5, the same guys who brought us the (mostly) great Rogue Squadron games.

LOL @ the Xbots.

I think the problem with Lair is that it got too much hype from PS3 fanboys. As far as I'm concerned this was never a 'huge' game to look forward to. It's merit is that it showcases some of the graphical abilities of the PS3 but as a game itself, I guess it wasn't a good concept to begin with.

Personally, on a gameplay level I see more in a game like Heavenly Sword than this one.

On an overall level, I see the most outta Warhawk.
Actually I agree with this. Lair got a lot of spot lights on it during its development, but Warhawk went by a bit unnoticed and proved to be a much more enjoyable game than Lair turned out to be. It just goes to show that we can't judge a book on its cover and it's always better to wait until the retail versions are available before making up ones mind.
