Good Sentai series for a beginner?

Hello again, good folks of the Henshin Justice forum.

As there have been so many series of Super Sentai, I'm looking for a recommendation of one to dip my toe into and watch through. I've watched a couple of episodes of Zyuranger (through curiosity, as I started as a Mighty Morphin' fan back in the day) and also a little bit of the Jet Man series. The one series that I have watched most of though is Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, which I really enjoyed. This series seemed slightly darker and grittier than some of the earlier stuff I'd seen, and I liked that switch to a more at times, “dramatic†feel, for want of a better word.

So, are there any series comparable to SPD, with darkness and grittiness taking precedent over the more light hearted, tongue in cheek styles of other series? Heavy on the Sci Fi element too, like Dekaranger? Also, are there any cool stand alone Sentai films that fit this criteria?

Thank you very much,

Go-Busters would definitely delight you then. There're multiple dark times throughout the series, it is a technological/high-tech theme. Don't want to say more cuz it would spoil it for you, but it fits all of what you're asking for. :)

I'd say Liveman. I've never seen the series at all, but I've read about how it's much more sickeningly darker and more serious than Jetman was.

there's also Flashman, which story centres around five young people who were kidnapped from Earth by aliens and return 20 years later to find their real families.

I would also recommend GoGoFive and Timeranger, but I'm more into light-hearted series so I'll leave the other recommendations to other members.

Pretty much anything from Changeman through Gaoranger is good viewing.

If you particularly want "gritty" (and if you want fully subbed shows), then go with Changeman, Maskman, Liveman, Jetman, and Dairanger.

Thanks guys. I've done the first few episodes of Go Buster and it's pretty much exactly what I've been looking for so far.

I look forward to trying out the other suggestions. Thanks again guys, you are the best!

Part of me wants to recommend JAKQ, but its one of those instances where the story starts off serious and slowly becomes very goofy, so much so it puts Gorenger to shame.

Denzi, Flash, Jetman and Liveman will suit you if you want some old school feel. Dairanger is also pretty cool altho not as dark, but definetely "mature" (if you skip a few filler episodes at the beggining).

I have yet to watch Go Busters but if all I've read its true, I would recommend it as well.
