Ghost stories, anyone?

Why is every good TV show Cancelled
I thought I'd go ahead & do this, just for fun. Does anyone have any brushes with the paranormal they'd like to share? In explaination for what I said on KR Simon's thread, anyway, I'll go ahead & tell mine.

I grew up in my Grandmother's house. Her family owned a large portion of property that contained two houses & it's become a sort of tradition to divide the property between two generations of the family & pass each one down to the next when it's owner died. We're on the fourth generation now who has owned the property.

Anyway, this place was DEFINATELY haunted- practically everywhere you go. Throughout the seventeen years I lived at the place, I saw a lot of things that convinced me the place was haunted. As a child, I would see shadow figures & felt like I was being watched when I was alone in certain rooms of the house. I would also hear this strange droning noise when I went into the garage that is... kind of difficult to explain & I'm not exactly sure what it was, or if it was paranormal. I assumed it was because it went away when the activity slowed down & started again when it picked back up. The worst of all though, I had recurring nightmares. Generally the same ones over & over again so often, I can still remember most of them vividly to this day. Around the time I turned eight, though, the activity slowed down quite a bit until it wasn't even noticable & stayed that way for years.

However, when I turned fifteen, the events in my life at the time gave me severe depression & at that time, it all pretty much came back. At that time, the rest of the family didn't like to stay overnight too often, even though three other people technically lived there besides me & my mom, so no one really believed what was going on & just ignored any proof I gave them. I saw shadows again, full body apparitions twice, heard strange voices & was visited in my dreams by them regularly. All in all, I was able to gather that we had a cloaked figure in the basement, my grandfather, my grandmother's first husband, my great grandmother and three others I couldn't identify & had no idea where they came from- an old hunchbacked woman, a young woman & a native american.

I also heard things walking around at night when everyone was asleep, had them speak directly in my ear, saw them in reflections (I've generally been scared to keep mirrors in my room since I was a child & even put up blinds specifically so I couldn't see reflections off of windows) woke up on several occasions to feel them hovering around my bed & both myself & my mother were attacked once each. I woke up unable to move anything but my arms & couldn't get out of bed or speak. I tried shoving whatever was there off me, but my arms suddenly froze like someone had grabbed them and I could move even less. I finally resolved to stop panicking & think up a plan, but when it realized I wasn't scared of it, it just left and I could suddenly move & speak again. My mom got attacked when she was sleeping in the living room. I was there & thought I sensed a spirit & told it to go away & suddenly, my mother burst awake claiming that someone had just hit her.

Anyway, I left the place & haven't been there in going on two years now. It's been almost. Four since my grandmother died. The property now belongs to my aunt & her daughter. I've also had paranormal experiances at my brothers' house & my best friend's house on a few occasions. So, anyone else willing to share?

One of my aunts used to see a ghost sitting on her bed when she was around 11-12 (supposedly, kids going through puberty are a high risk group for ghost sightings.) The ghost was a guy dressed as an old-fashioned policeman. She has since been told by a psychic that this is her "spirit guide" and some more stuff about him

Yeah, I've heard, that too. Some thing to do with the physical, emotional, mental & social stresses those kids are just beginning to go through.

Luckily, she got a guide/ protector. Depending on the psychological makeup, I've heard that they could draw any number of spirits, good or bad, to the home. There's also a theory that children who are escpecially stressed out during this time period can actually spawn poltergeist activity as well.

Well, cool story. Thanks for sharing, lazy!

Thankfully I haven't encountered any paranormal activities anywhere.
If I ever did though, I would probably move as far as I could from that area and try to brain bleach it :P

While growing up, both my parents were always working and going on business trips so my grandmother spent a lot of time raising me. As a result, we were extremely close. Her passing about a decade ago was absolutely devastating to me. I fell into a deep depression and didn't care about anything anymore. Things I used to be good at, I no longer was. Things I used to enjoy, I no longer did. For a few months, I had recurring dreams of her comforting me until eventually I got over her death. (Though I still haven't fully gotten over it and likely never will, but I've recovered enough that it doesn't impair me anymore.)

To this day, I still feel her presence in our house. I'm not scared about it at all though and find it very comforting, knowing that she's always watching over me, my family, and the house. I no longer have recurring dreams, but she does visit once in a while and I love it when she does.

My middle/highschool campus was haunted. It was a private school so it was relatively small, and had been around for awhile. The old gynmasium was supposedly haunted, and when I was a 7th grader it was knocked down and a new building was put in its place. The ghost continued to haunt the school.

I tested this multiple times. I walked into the middle of the gym with the lights off and stood there. I heard footsteps walking towards me, and then it went quickly into a sprint. I ran to a corner of the gym and turned on the lights. There was nothing there.

Another time, my friend and I went back to the gym when the lights were off. We walked to the center again and stayed there for about 5 minutes before we heard footsteps on the catwalk from the far end of of the gym. The footsteps were slow and metallic and eventually stopped directly above where we were standing.

Around 11PM I was still hanging out at the school (musical practice went really late sometimes) in the hallway next to the gym. I heard footsteps above me, loud and clear. I walked over to the entrance to the garage, which led to the upstairs area that connected to the catwalk. I turned on the lights and listened. Hearing nothing I went over to the cement steps and made my way up to the first landing. It was dark up there and there is no way to turn the lights off from upstairs for the controls are down in the main area of the garage. Loud footsteps then sprinted towards me and I didn't wait to find out what it was. I jumped down the steps, into the hallway and into my coach's office.

My school is full of ghost stories like this. The worst part is that we get a lot of new staff, and we hear these stories from staff who have only been there for a few weeks. And the stories match up perfectly with the others.

That's pretty cool! I've always wanted to check out a haunted school (there's two of them around here) but I haven't got the chance to yet.:redface2:

Also, the nearest college is supposed to be haunted, but... you hear ghost stories from just about every college that has ever existed, so... you can probably guess my aprehension there.

I hardly told this story to anyone close to me because it was so weird and confusing. But here goes nothing. It happened when I was a kid, probably around 8-10 years old. Around night time, close to sunrise time at around 5am to 6am, I remember waking up from my sleep. It was still dark, but with some light coming. I open my eyes for no reason and saw that there was a human figure to the right of where I was sleeping. The figure was just standing there, and it was kinda dark or even grey. I don't remember how it looked like but it might've been a male figure. I then turned to my left side to see if everyone was still sleeping and saw that my Dad was asleep and so was everyone else in the room. I turned back to the right side and then the figure was gone. So strange and confusing. I didn't tell anyone because it was weird.
