i didn't realize that the make up they used was more of a paint looking base than a powder foundation now that takes some skill O_O
i remember in the old days, they used to take a stick, burn it and use the charcoal to draw their eyebrows in..
and drawing in that just a hint of the base of the hairline <3 well in jpn culture that area is thought to be very sexy and everything :3 .. juuust a hint beneath the makeup kinda thing i guess? XD
interesting how little things have changed over the years :3

I'm a dude....and I do understand the time and effort it takes for a girl to put on make-up.
One little slip up in applying make up can prove disastrous.
They explain in "Memoirs of a Geisha" that leaving the skin at the base of the neck unpainted is like allowing men to see a part of them naked almost, which is very alluring to customers. Also, the hairdo of a Maiko, the split peach with the red ribbon, is said to symbolize the female genitals to get a man thinking about...well...sex. It also said that when serving tea, a Geisha will pull up a little of her sleeve and expose the inside of her wrist to her male consort, also to excite him.
