From stunts to sculpts

After quite a bit of thought, I'm gonna quit stunts for awhile to take up sculpting. Mainly because there's just too many poseurs in the action clubs here nowadays and I've always wanted to get into the creation of Toku suit making.

The whole thing is gonna be self-taught and I just went to Shinjuku and Ikebukuro the other day to get some supplies and oil-based clay. My first project is gonna be the helmet of Evolver-01/05.

If anybody's got any tips on sculpting, by all means let me know.

I've been wanting to get into it myself actually but more along the lines of making PVC figures and whatnot.

There was a nice tutorial online at one point..I can't remember for the life of me where it is now.

I ain't really givin' up stunts per-say, but more like givin' up action club practice. I keep goin' to these practices and nobody's there cause they're all workin' on set. And at times I'm wonderin' "okay, so why am I NOT on set with them?"

I'm still tryin' to do action movies, but I wanna try to actual films or at least short films on a budget rather than just a bunch camcorder shorts that are gonna be shown on YouTube and appreciated by like 8 people...

Also, being one of the "gaijin" in the action clubs basically lables me as the outsider. I never get invited to set because of that. Machine Girl is an example of this. I could've at least been a volunteer production asisstant, but they didn't even let me do THAT...

And to top it off, all the other "Gaijin" in the clubs are really obnoxious egotistical show-offs who think that they're the next wave of action stars. They shoot a bunch of camcarder stuff but never go the next step to make an actual production. And even if they DID do so, they aren't photogenic in any way whatsoever.

I've always admired Steve Wang and how he's been able to do suntwork, action directing AND make-up effects/live casting. It's probably gonna be a real odessy, but hopefully I could do the same and fuse my suit making with my action know-how.

I'm still doin' action, but I'm only gonna practice if there's a shoot happenin'. Although I might look around for some other clubs where I'd be the only Gaijin.:disappoin

But ANYWAYS....

...here's my first attempt at getting the shape of the helmet. Kinda ran outta clay, but at least I'm starting to get a feel for it.

First, the original.

Gonna get more clay and tools tomorrow.

Not bad. Keep up the good work, and show pictures when (or if) you make a Super Sentai helmet.
