Well, isn’t this cool. Free League Publishing has announced a deal wit Skybound Entertainment, makers of all things Invincible, to create a new tabletop RPG based on the world of the comic (and by extension the TV series). What’s being called Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying is being designed by D&D Beyond founder Adam Bradford, who has served as producer on titles for Dungeons & Dragons, Cortex Prime, and Marvel, and Tomas Härenstam, Free League co-founder and lead designer on the ALIEN RPG, the Blade Runner RPG, Mutant: Year Zero, and Dragonbane. Details are light at this early stage, but it seems the initial offering will be sold as a Core Rulebook and Starter Set with illustrations by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley. Graphic design of the pages will be guided by Johan Nohr (MÖRK BORG). You know how the Invincible comic is full of relationship drama as well as superhero action? This turns both of those into gameplay mechanics. Bradford gave the website Polygon a little hint as to how it will play. “With Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying, there are two main types of scenes — action and social,” Bradford said. “Action scenes capture the thrill of battling super-villains, […]

Free League has been putting out some of the best RPGs in recent years, and with Adam Bradford and Tomas Härenstam leading the design, this has serious potential. I love that they’re incorporating both action and social mechanics—one of the best parts of Invincible is how the characters' relationships are just as intense as the fights. If they nail that balance, this could be a fantastic addition to the superhero RPG genre. Definitely keeping an eye on that Kickstarter!

I love Invincible, but I’ve never played a tabletop RPG before. This actually sounds like a cool way to get into the hobby, though. A Starter Set makes it seem accessible, and if they capture the mix of crazy action and emotional storytelling from the show, I could see myself giving this a shot.

Most superhero RPGs focus too much on power rankings and combat stats, but Invincible’s world is all about the emotional fallout of being a hero. If they really integrate that into the mechanics, this could be something special. And with Walker and Ottley on board for illustrations? That’s a must-buy for me.

I like the idea, but let’s be real—how much is this going to cost? Free League makes great games, but their books aren’t cheap, and Kickstarter campaigns tend to push expensive collector’s editions. Hopefully, they’ll have an affordable way to get in without dropping a ton of cash.

I want to be excited, but there are still a lot of unknowns. Will it be beginner-friendly? How will powers be handled? Will it support long-term campaigns or just one-shots? I like what I’m hearing so far, but I need to see more details before committing. Hopefully, Free League delivers.
