Finishing up Shinkenger (Spoiler Alert)

I kinda envisioned Takeru and Ryunosuke to be completely unchanged. Mako-chan and Kotoha-chan would have some character changes that would only apply to the '80s. Chiaki is somewhat of a question mark, as rebellious youths of the '80s are completely different from those of today. Would he have been spending his time and money playing arcade games?

Well, 80's Chiaki coudl hang out in Pachinko parlors, right? That would pretty much fulfill the same "hangout for slacker who isn't doing his training like he's supposed to be," quota, wouldn't it?

1. Since cellular phones were not widely used in the Showa era, what would be the Shinkengers' henshin device? As a matter of fact, what were the ancestral Shinkengers' henshin devices?

How about regular old fashioned calligraphy brushes?

2. It's been shown in the series and the movie that the Shinkenger suits date all the way back to Shiba Retsudo, the first head of the Shiba House. Would this apply to the Showa Shinkengers?

I don't see why not; it's not as though spandex ever looked like realistic battle armor to begin with.

Why not make the Showa Samurai Sentai Shinkenger the prequel to the Heisei show, featuring the adventures of Masataka Shiba and his clan, right up to their deaths and Doukoku Chimatsuri being sealed away? Maybe we can collectively make a fanfic out of this.

Well, aside from how Masataka was the only one to die in the final raid, that does sound like an interesting project. I don't think I'd have the time or energy for it but I would definitely be the first to read it.

Actually I think it would be cooler for such a fanfic to be in Takeru's father's point of view, as he serves the Shiba clan as some servant (maybe a Kuroko, who knows) while the 17th Shinkengers go out to battle.

I mean, Takeru's the main character of Shinkenger, so I think a prequel fic using his father as the POV character would be much better than simply writing about 17th Generation Shinkenger's adventures.

Well, there were arcade games back then too, but instead of Tekken Chiaki would've been playing Donkey Kong or other games (depending on year).

Here are a couple of other scenarios:

1. Since cellular phones were not widely used in the Showa era, what would be the Shinkengers' henshin device? As a matter of fact, what were the ancestral Shinkengers' henshin devices?

I don't think they can avoid calligraphy-as-henshin device even in Showa era, so I think they'll use special calligraphy brush that triggers the henshin wrist device on their hand, and activate the henshin sequence.

2. It's been shown in the series and the movie that the Shinkenger suits date all the way back to Shiba Retsudo, the first head of the Shiba House. Would this apply to the Showa Shinkengers?

I don't see why they'd need to change the suits, to be frank.

Not a bad idea.

I think that if Shinkenger had been made in the '80s the girls would have been rather like Pink and Yellow Mask (although Mako would be less tomboyish than Haruka and Kotoha would be more shy than Momoko.)

I also think that Kaoru could have been done in the '80s - it reminds me a little of Maskman revealing that
Igam was really a woman
although that should have been obvious to the viewer from the start. But it would have been done differently; we probably wouldn't have seen her battle or pilot an Origami.

Didn't we see in flashback that they were calligraphy brushes? Or am I imagining this?

They're not all dead! Mako's mother was the previous ShinkenPink, and she is still alive. Ryuunosuke's and Chiaki's fathers are still alive, it's possible they were the previous Blue and Green

Second the "Ryuunosuke's dad is the previous Shinkenblue"

They did say that Ryuunosuke's father is his master both in bushido and in kabuki, so unless they skipped a generation and the previous Blue was much older than the rest, the dad was it.

It's heavily implied that Chiaki's dad is the previous Shinkengreen, just watch what he can do with a sword :D

(although one flashback had Takeru's dad with a katana so maybe it's just standard practice for servants to know how to use a sword . . . but I still say it's Chiaki's dad)

We see the parents of Mako, Ryuunosuke, and Chiaki, however we hear nothing about Kotoha's mother. Is it safe to say that it's implied that Kotoha's mother died in that raid?

Well, the samurai title is practically a lineage, so for Ryonosuke and the others to be samurai would mean that at least one of their parents was one as well.

In fact the only one who's parents apparently weren't samurai seems to be Takeru, so if the whole kagemusha thing had not happened, the most Takeru could have been was a kuroko. A kuroko with unusually strong mojikara, but a kuroko nonetheless.

Did anyone else caught the fact that kagemusha plan originally was to wait for the 19th head (Kaoru's future child) to perfect the Seal? Only to have her perfected sooner than expected. Yet despite everything it was still the 19th head leading the attack that defeated Dokoku.

No, it is not. The only one of her family that's mentioned is her sister - we don't know enough to make an assumption like that

We know enough that her sister was meant to be the next Shinkenyellow so there's at least the knowledge that she wasn't the Shinkenyellow we saw during that raid.

Speaking of the idea that Takeru might've been a Kuroko had it not been for the Kagemusha thing, I think it would be a fun idea for a fanfic with the idea of Kaoru being the Lord to lead the Samurai, while she has a Kagemusha that's pretty active and has a lot of focus, that Kagemusha being Takeru.
