In relation to UkiyaSeed's blog post about the Noli Me Tangere:

Did you know that in 1961 (Rizal's birth centennial, National Artist for Cinema Gerardo de Leon directed a film adaptation of Rizal's first novel? It won Best Picture and Best Director in the 1961 FAMAS Awards.

Also, the 13-episode television adaptation of Noli Me Tangere was directed by Eddie S. Romero, another National Artist. Aside from being shown in cable TV, the entire series is collected in 6 VHS tapes and costs P12,000, in a storage format eclipsed by VCD, DVD, and Blu-ray!
