Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer

That alone was enough to keep me away from the movie.

You should've watched Hellboy 2, Keith.

Again, I don't mind or care if they change something like Galactus, so long as key concepts are still in place. That being said, they took away all of Gal's personality when they could've at least had his head forum deep within the cloud's energy center.

And I wanted to see Hellboy 2... but alas, that is not an option yet.

Man, if you're gonna do freakin Galactus on the big screen you either go all the way or you get the hell out. He wouldn't even be that hard of an effect to pull off but then again these are the same people who fucked up Doctor Doom so I shouldn't have been shocked but just..ugh. What a slap in the face to Jack Kirby and a utterly wasted opportunity.

Galactus was an interesting concept as the giant universe force thing...if they'd given him some dialogue, it would've sold it better, I think. And also built him up more than just the few seconds of screen time he actually got.

I never had that big of a problem with the FF movies. Doom is massively different, sure, but the movie-doom is an OK villain, and the main point of both movies seems to be a family of interesting characters having fun and saving the world, which I have no problem with.

And I'm sorry, but a giant man with a goofy helmet that wears his purple undies on the outside would never go over with the general audience. The film would be an even bigger laughing stock than it already is.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus Christ this is terrible.

I mean..... consistently awful. Thought it wouldn't nearly be this bad, but.... it just keeps going.

Bad acting..... script.......... pacing, directing....

Goddamn.. O___O

This is pretty much how I felt when trying to watch Kamen Rider Kabuto.

No offense to you personally but I think that's bullshit and a cop out. It was a cop out in Ultimate and it's a cop out here. For crissakes you can evoke Jack Kiby's designs without having to be limited to color processes of comicbooks on newsprint printing paper in the 1960's. Especially if you have the budget of a major motion picture.

I'd take this over a frickin cloud any day.

The budget for Rise of the Silver Surfer wasn't all that big by movie standards from what I understand. CGI still costs a lot in terms of money and man power. As I recall, the Silver Surfer (the character) was actually done by WETA, all of the other visual effects were done by another, cheaper studio.

I'll be honest, I don't really see what the issue is other than you and others being fanboys. I like Kirby, but it's kind of pointless to get worked up over a throwaway film. If they had done Galactus the way you wanted, it still wouldn't have changed the mediocrity of the film.

Not necessarily. Look at the CG version Marvel did for the Silver Surfer cartoon.

Key word being cartoon. Obviously kids aren't going to care. Kids still have the imagination and sense of wonder that older folks tend to lack. I doubt it would go over with anyone teen and older, besides comic fans and Kirby fanatics.

The Galactus thing isn't my only issue with the film and like you say, that by itself wouldn't have saved it. But I do think it is easily one of the top most absolutely boneheaded decisions made on the part of the filmmakers.

I think if the audience is willing to roll with a guy made or orange rocks and a guy who stretches, and a silver dude on a surf board Galactus isn't that much more of a leap for any audience fanboy or otherwise. But the writing and production have got to sell it.

..and to some extent I appreciate that they wanted to give a little bit of a lighter touch. The comics had humor to but there good and bad approaches for it. These guys make the FF into a sitcom with fight scenes and it's not even good at doing that.
