Ehh!! Happy Canada Day!!!

While The_Emperor does have his own opinion about Canada, he shouldn't be going into this thread just to diss about this country, especially when this thread is supposed to about celebrating Canada. It's just very rude.

If I were to say "Meh. America sucks." in a fourth of July thread I'm pretty sure some people would be offended.

it would be like an instant ban  i tease i tease Keith wouldn't allow something like that

Not in Toronto, but around the area, yes. But still... just because I live here doesn't mean I have to be patriotic. And if I'm not "proud to be Canadian" on the other 364 days of the year, I don't see why I would be today.

Living in Canada wasn't my choice, it was my family's when I was still little. Had it been up to me, we would have stayed in Hong Kong.

That, I am truly grateful for. I am welcome to stay with them at their estate in Hong Kong and provided everything. My favorite aunt is pretty much a second mother to me.

If you dislike the country so much then up and leave. You're old enough to do that, aren't you? Or are you that ungrateful for what Canada offers that you're willing to settle and coast by because of all the amenities that this country can actually give you? There are many people who would give anything to be in your place, so just because you don't see this country as your personal paradise doesn't mean you SHOULD say that it sucks. Yes, we all get that you CAN say it, but that just makes you sound pretty disrespectful and rude to everyone else here who is just trying to come together and celebrate.

Fine, we get it, you are entitled to like another country more, but don't rain on others' parade. That just makes you look kind of selfish and sad. What is the point of you being here, in a thread of celebration, just to express your personal disdains? Be a little bit more respectful. If you don't care for Canada, then don't post in this thread. Furthermore, I am actually quite offended that you can sit here and pretty much say **** about this country, when your family probably worked their balls off to move here to provide a better life for you. Its pretty disgraceful. If you hate it so much, why don't YOU bust some balls and work to go back to Hong Kong instead of sitting on your ass probably getting fed an unemployment cheque, a disability cheque, or a welfare cheque, and every year you can walk into your local community center for free flu shots, or walk-in clinics for checkups. You can't give me any excuses because this country even gives out OSAP and loans and bursaries for students who want to further their career. But hey, you probably don't really care and rather sit all day watching your toku from sites, mind you, that Canada DOESN'T block like China, or Africa where.. with even in the most populated city, needed help from France just to get good feed for the damn Olympics (never mind just internet!) or hell North Korea doesn't even have contact with the outside world! I'd say you have it pretty damn good here. And let me continue:

I know my grandfather and grandmother came here on a boat, had to pay everything themselves. My grandfather worked in the mines for years, and saw his friends die right in front of his face from cave-ins, all to provide some hope to his family. He went without meals quite often to provide for his kids. He saw what this country could be, and if it wasn't for his hard work and determination and his want for his children to succeed, I wouldn't be here, and I wouldn't have these amazing opportunities to pursue my career goals as an animator. I wouldn't be able to go out and experience the different cultures and celebrations that this country offers. I probably would have been a narrow-minded, inexperienced person, but I'm not because I am grateful for the sacrifices others have made for me, and because I am grateful for what I have around. So just because my ancestors never had an estate doesn't mean my family doesn't have one now and a life most would probably call luxury, all because of what someone else believed in, and their patriotism to not only this country, but also to never forget their roots and to bring those roots overseas and share them with the rest of the people here.

Do you really think you'll have it that great somewhere else? If so, then get the **** out of my country and stop using the things provided for you here. Or maybe you can just lighten up and have a little bit more regard for what you have around here. I'm not saying that you should be hoisting a flag every day, but the point of Canada day and watching the fireworks is to bring people the **** together to celebrate a time and a great movement for acceptance for everyone who lives here (You have any idea how many homosexual people in the states probably longed to move to Ontario to get married? Do you have any idea what Pierre Trudeau invisioned for this country? Canada is a step towards harmony.)
All in all.. I feel a bit disgusted that you have that mindset, but more disgusted that you chose to voice it here.

Kura knows it!.

Why do i have a feeling a big fights gonna happen on the board tomorrow? I hope not. :/ I hope im wrong.

No fights tomorrow. As far as I am concerned this Canada Day discussion is over and to the victor go the spoils.

Now let's celebrate ID4 today with our neighbors!.

And looking back, I just wanted to add something else:

The government only "leeches out part of your paycheque" as you put it, to ensure that people don't have to suffer that badly anymore. Yes, there are a few flaws like with any government system (they should screen people better) but you have no idea how much help those taxes provides to those who need it. Like for my grandmother who has been bed-ridden for 10 years (for those who don't know, it means she's basically paralyzed from the neck-down due to a stroke) that our family is grateful that the government is able to provide nurses even just 3 times a week and my mother doesn't have to be there from 6AM till 6PM (my aunt takes over from then) tending to her bedwounds, bathing her, feeding her, changing her diapers, and making sure she is comfortable because we value family and refuse to put her in a home because they do not have the proper mattresses available for prevention of bed-wounds (where the inside of the skin rots because you don't move and circulation can't get to those areas.) So yes, because our government is so "LEECHY" my mother can actually have a bit of freedom where she can get out of the house and work as a lifeguard instead of being either a full-time mom, cooking for when my dad gets home from his job at 10:30PM or being a full-time caregiver. We do what we can, and sometimes life is hard, but we realize that without some things that Canada provides, I probably would have lost my grandmother a long time ago, and she would have never been able to see me graduate or see a lot of things that I have been able to share my life with. We are pretty damn happy knowing that this past Canada day my family could be together and sit around the living room with her in her bed and enjoy strawberry parfaits together and celebrate all the good things we have here. It's stuff we don't take for granted.

I'm not telling you this all because I'm being a sap, I'm telling it because you need to understand that taxes don't affect people in purely negative ways. So maybe if you still insist that the government is leeching off of you, you should consider that you have probably been leeching off your parents for a good damn while because you basically stated that you ignore of all the experiences they're trying to expose you to (working in another country for example,) but it doesn't even seem like you have the slightest bit of inclination to change your situation and become an independent, grown man, who is responsible for his own bills and his own direction in life. If you aren't leeching, then why aren't you progressing towards your goals? Having their support, and having them provide entirely for you without you making an equal effort to contribute to them (by means of education, personal growth, or bills) are two different things, just so you know. If you don't like where you are, then change it. That's what people with ambition and respect do, but most importantly, perhaps you should be more mature and focus on what you have rather than what you could be lacking.
But to be honest, I think I rather you DO take a permanent vacation to Hong Kong and hey maybe "leech" (as you put it) off your aunt there, (seems to me like you just want to freeload!) because it seems to me that you have nothing worthwhile to contribute here besides an opportunity for people to condemn your malignant, spoilt attitude.

Maybe, yes, I do sound harsh, but when someone has indeed just brought up all these points and have just disrespected everyone in this place who has ties to our country just by insisting on ruling that "Canada sucks" and that they have some sort of right to parade the ideal of ungrateful citizen on a day like this and in a thread like this, then perhaps they should realize that a lot of people who are proud of where they were born, raised, or now currently live, won't stand for someone desecrating their heritage with their own profane opinions and ideals that somehow this day entails us having a "Best-Country-Contest" and that we should stand by and watch them badmouth a place people identify with.
Point is, we don't actually care whether or not someone loves our country or is patriotic or not, but I believe we DO have enough pride to defend our culture when someone outrightly bashes it on a day of celebration; I just felt it proper to speak for everyone who was offended here (by bashing a country, you do in a way bash its people,) and I am glad that you at least agree with me.
I'm sorry that this whole thing sounds long and bitchy but I don't want to hear complaints or criticisms from a person who can actually quite easily change their situation with a little effort, as they don't have others that directly depend on them like so many others might here or around the rest of the world.

Excuse me for wishing to see all my country's people unite as one without strife, disregard, or disrespect, on one day of the year.

CONCLUSION?
All in all, Emperor, if you want to live in Hong Kong, make an effort NOW to move there in the future. In the meantime, I'd appreciate it if you'd enjoy the different things that you experience here instead of directly comparing it to what you deem as a better life somewhere else. I've probably offended you greatly, and for that I'm sorry, but I've been greatly offended myself because you decided to say those things you did here in particular. I'm not saying it's an excuse for me to say harsh words, but I am saying that next time have a little bit more regard for where you are now, even if you don't like the country, you could make the most of it and celebrate just to be happy you're alive and living unsuppressed in a place that tries to do the best it can for those who are here. Like Hong Kong more all you like, but make an effort to take in the positives of where you are right now instead of telling us we all basically live in a "sucky" place.

Thanks for those who had the patience to read my whole speech. (I had to split it up @_@ it was too long.)
