Drama or not... Kamen Rider

Lately I've noticed on the LJ fandom side of things, the "new" fans (as in those who jumped on with the whole den o craze) have been calling Kamen Rider Kiva a drama rather than what it really is considered.

I've been seeing it uploaded to jdrama communities and what not and I've just been thinking - What sets it apart from Super Sentai besides the obvious.

Aren't the two essentially the same? I don't consider Kamen Rider a drama, never have, and never well. It maybe "shot" like a drama and edited like a drama but in the end it doesn't have the drama elements that would make it a drama.

So I leave this question to you: Do you consider Kamen Rider, now, a Drama or just a Japanese Kids Show on a two hour action block on TVAsahi.

What is laughable to me about this is that out of all the modern series they're picking *Den-O* to call a drama? WTF?

I would say that Kuuga and Agito were approached very much with a kind of drama format in mind. The shows that followed kind of kept that but to a lesser extent in Ryuki and Faiz. Blade had it but they were attempting to amp up the action which may be why Blade for all its flaws feels to me fairly balanced in terms of it's pacing and the distribution of the action and drama aspects even if some of that action is forced excuses to have the Riders fight each other. Again.

I think having a dramatic feel is important for Kamen Rider but at the same time you can't get too bogged down in it because at the end of the day this is supposed to be a bike riding henshin hero protecting people from monsters!

Right now, I'm not sure even the makers of Kamen Rider really know what they want it to be. There's been an even heavier injection of gimmicks and a weird focus on comedy elements like the cookery antics in Kabuto, but at the same time beneath all the selling toys and wackyness there does seem to be at least some desire to still have this be a dramatic and action-packed show.

I think it's matter of priorities and they don't have a good sense of them. I don't think Kamen Rider show be approached as a drama that happens to have an action scene tacked on the last 30 seconds or a comedy that happens to have some action and a bit of drama. I think it should be a super hero action series where drama, characters, etc. help to lift the action up so that you are invested in it emotionally when the fight is on and that whatever might make a good toy should be things that fit naturally with the story rather than things constructed to meet Bandai's quotas and market research. There should be some thought given as to wether or not elements actually work for a Kamen Rider show and not just to use the name as a souless brand.

Getting back more to the topic, I don't think it's a drama in the J-Drama sense but more a drama in the sense that a good Kamen Rider is ideally meant to have a more intentionally dramatic flavor and tone than a sentai or an Ultraman show.

Okay right. But why do they call everything an TV drama than? i translate some information from series trough an translator and it translated to Tv drama. i don't mind calling it that way? i'm just curiouse why?

Is it me or do they prefer the word Drama over Bangumi?

Oh come on realy its not the end of the world if they call it Drama, you guys got problems with what they are calling it?

Besides its not much of a big deal and as long as people is watching it im cool.
