Dragonball Kai - Talk UP!

:eyebrow: Have you watched it? it's the same show just without the filler and condensed to roughly a hundred episodes. most of the animation had touch-ups, editing and cleaning, far from being redone. Sure, theres a scene or two that was totally redone and drawn from the ground up but they totally contrast with the original artwork, making it so unbelievably apparant.

They even said, all of the artwork is from the original show, just cleaned up. Since this is a celebration of Dragon Ball, why not just have re-done the show from scratch? Hell, you got a bokogillion episodes of one piece and DBZ has atleast brought in enough money to have purchased a small island nation, why not redo the franchise with a modern look?

Also, With the dub, this is funimation. I know I can hope and pray and plead, but I'm 99.9999999% positive Chris Sabats going to be doing his gravely "I'm Pretending to smoke three packs a day" voice on one of the characters, which will make my ears bleed.

You just answered for yourself...

It is also not the same artwork. The funimation youtube page just put up an official video saying all the artwork is original

Just because it doesn't have all the episodes, a few edits here and there doesn't make it a 100% different show. That's like saying showgirls on VH1 is a totally different movie from the NC-17 DVD. Of course the VH1 version doesn't have the nudity and digitized bras but it's still the same exact movie, just changes. Elizabeth Berkley doesn't automatically transform into Natalie Portman when watching one or the other.

All of the artwork was remaster, cleaned up and refreshed, not totally drawn from scratch artwork for an entirely new show. There is a scene or two with totally new artwork drawn from the ground up because the original cells were destroyed or too heavily damaged to be recovered (the vegeta barrage on gohan in the saiyan arc and such.) but overall, it's the same artwork, the same show we watched long ago.

Also, I don't really trust the words of Funimation all that much. These are the guys responsible for most of the things people blame 4KIDS and expect me to pay $50 for thirteen episodes of the show 4KIDS butchered on saturday mornings on foxbox.

P.S.: Sorry for yelling and sounding like a negative nelly about all this crap guys. I just wanted to say my peace and I promise this'll be my last post of the footage stuff. I know how annoying it must seem with me in the middle of this yelling about how much I dislike Funimation and crap like that when you're trying to talk about the show. again my apologies.

Someone just told me that the guy who voices Goku sings the dubbed theme for Kai. Is this true? I like it all the same.

Bah, you Americans and your remasters and recuts.

We get no Kai on TV north of the border, our Nick only likes showing Spongebob, Catdog, Angry Beavers and Rocko's Modern Life for some reason...............

Sort of. The full version of the opening, used for the DVDs for example, is sung by Goku's voice actor, Sean Schemmel. The "shortened" opening for the Nickelodeon broadcasts, however, is sung by Vic Mignogna.

Saw it yesterday. It was decent. I wish they had improved the animation in all the scenes, instead of just the opening, but i guess it couldn't be helped. =p

I've been watching the show. I like it. I kind of miss the fillers in some points (character development I like, hours of screaming I don't). But Funimation tries to mix in some pretty cool things here in there. Piccolo may have said "Special Beam Cannon" during the fight, but did anyone else catch him saying "Makankosappo" during the flashback? They actually kept the Japanese name for the dub! That's new!

And that's why I can't tell which version I like better. I love hearing Vic sing, but how often do we get to hear Sean sing?

I saw the first 13 episodes dubbed. It's amazing how different the show is, when you take out all the bullshit.

Voltron Panthera Force...you were close...lol

You'll be glad to hear that they've changed the name of the show to just plain Voltron Force.

If they redubbed it, did they at least keep the amazing English soundtrack for the episodes? I mean, I always thought the japanese version music sucked. Sorry, just my opinion. But the DBZ in america had bitchin techno tracks and wicked vibes going on. Hope they didnt drop that.

(I like that they 'dubbed' the intro but Im not a huge fan of hearing "dont stop dont stop dont stop dont stop dont stop dont stop." I loved "Rock the Dragon" a lot more)

Rock the Dragon was a terrible song. In replacing it, nothing of value was lost. :D

I've caught a few episodes of this and I've been really quite impressed. The ADR has improved tremendously and the performances are much better. The script translation is a vast improvement, too.

I might end up buying the box sets of this one.
