Does it Really Matter What Kind of Asian You Are....?

There is some real animosity between some Asian cultures, and I usually complain when there are innaccuracies like in Memoirs of a Geisha. For example, when Gordon Liu and the Yuen Yo Ping fight team portrayed the Japanese Crazy 88s in Kill Bill. However, I got over it due to the scenes with Pai Mei in Vol 2.

Also, in the GI Joe movie, a Korean martial artist has been cast as Storm Shadow, who is supposed to be Japanese.

I hate when a Chinese person is supposed to be a Japanese person in a movie, it's retarded.

Yet, 98% of the Canadians I know cannot tell the difference. Only 1 fucking person I know can. It's sad.

Vengence.....

I agree with the above. I love Zhang Ziyi and I think she's very talented as an actress, however, I think the only reason she was cast was her star power. There are plenty of Japanese or japanese-americans who could have played the role. Gong Li is also Chinese as I think, Ken Wantanbe who was the love interest. Correct me if I'm wrong. That was my problem with the movie in general. Acting ability does count but you may want accuracy too.

Along the same lines when Jennifer Lopez who is Puerto Rican, was cast to play Selena, who is Mexican they were in an uproar. Different nationalities. Although she did a good job in the movie it still bothered people.

Im mixed asian and realy in the last few months it got to me how stupid people are... For example that poster on page 1 "all asian are THE SAME" is wrong, you wont like it saying all white americans are the same as germans... do you?

Same with some comments(example youtube) when they are watching a trailer of speed racer, they think the asians in this are japanese but its clearly they are koreans.

How the hell is this happening why can't they just hire a japanese actor? because they can't speak english well? But they know there are plenty of actors and actresses who can speak english. Or otherwise just dont make the damn movie.

And probably when Dragon Ball comes out most of the noobs out there thinks that all of them are either chinese or japanese(the asian actors and actresses)...

Should I care if a Canadian or Brit is acting in a move as an American?

Is that the same thing?

For example, when Gordon Liu and the Yuen Yo Ping fight team portrayed the Japanese Crazy 88s in Kill Bill. However, I got over it due to the scenes with Pai Mei in Vol 2.

Can't say I understand this.... :sly:

its chinese actors in jpn roles again XD

another one that bothers me is lady deathstrike and how she's played by kelly hu....even though she's from hawaii XD (go hawaii actresses!) but newayz...its obvious that she's chinese... and just doesn't fit for me><

It doesn't really matter because in reality they all look the same. You know like when you have a crayon box and there are like fucking 20 thousand different shades and slight variations of a red crayon.

Not to piss any Asians off but I don't really call them Japanese, Chinese, etc I just say Asian. Makes my life easier not having a Korean after me for calling them a Japanese.
