Do you need subs to enjoy Sentai?

i want mine unsubbed because its clean and i use some of the clips for my TMV projects. i can watch subbed eps online and i understand a small portion of nihongo tnx to my nifty jap-english dictionary and a friend who understands and speaks nihongo fluently.

Subs are helpful, but I don't really need them in order to enjoy a show. Usually I can get enough from the characters' actions, tone, and body language to follow the story.

If there's a series you want to see, I don't think you should let a lack of subs stop you. People miss out on a lot of good stuff that way.

Recently, I've been watching older Sentai series, which I managed to find subbed (I'm watching Jetman and plan to watch Maskman). But I know that many of the older series are not subbed and I really want to watch them.

The thing about this is that I always watch subbed episodes. But most of them are Raw, which means that there's a possibility that there are some things that I won't understand. So, I was wondering do you need subs to truly enjoy Sentai? If so, what specific series, if possible.

I think you can watch raw to get the gist but that's such a bare-bones version of the experience. You really need to either know the language or have good well thought-out subs for the story to truly come across as intended. Dialog matters.

It depends what "enjoying" means to you.

I can watch Sentai without the subs for pure entertainment value, but as someone who would like to see interesting and complex stories and good dialogue, I need them.

If you just need to understand what they are say, then yes. But if you just wanna watch the show, you don't need the subs. Just look at what the actors are doing during every scene you watch.

Absolutely! With thee technology and the accessilbility of subbing software, I've admitted to being spoiled with subs. I've been watching toku over (wait for it) more than twenty years raw, and I can go either way. It's a good way to learn Japanese, IMHO.

I would say yes. Because unless you know Japanese you are definitely missing out on a LOT of the story. Even if someone points at a series like Go-onger I mean it LIVES off pun...and Carranger doesn't make much sense either since it also LIVES off jokes...so really watching it RAW means you're laughing at people moving...

I'm not saying you can't watch it without subs if you like, just don't base your "love of this show" or your "deep hate" on watching something you have no understanding of. I mean words are being spoken for a reason and shouldn't really be disregarded in any series (since even Go-onger has had it's serious moments)

Although I don't know Japanese I think I can still watch RAWs. However, subs are always better for me. I want to understand the show more.

So yeah, would prefer sub.

The only obvious reason why you would need subs to watch Sentai or any Japanese TV show is because you can't understand Japanese. If you can understand Japanese it won't be so much a problem to you.

But I guess the reason why some people would watch it subbed or not, because they just want to get on and watch the show. Some would ask other people about what's going on in the show to understand the story more.

Me, I want to be fluent in the Japanese language, so I sometimes watch RAW.

But as for other languages such as Korean or Chinese, I wouldn't watch them unless their subbed. I have to admit I even found Erexion a bit boring but I'd probably enjoy it more if it was subbed. Others might suggest that I learn more Korean which I would agree is a good idea but I don't think I would have enough time and I have to concentrate on my Japanese.

So, in my opinion, whether you watch subbed or raw is up to you.
