Do you need subs to enjoy Sentai?

Nope. You don't need subs to enjoy the action that classic Sentai has to offer. Storyline wise it could get a tad confusing but that is what internet research is for.

Great. Now I have to Watch Carranger again.

No rush. Unless they've suddenly been done overnight, that series doesn't even have subs. I think only a few episodes do at the most.

And I won't touch something which lacks subs, that's why I haven't watched all of Zyuranger and Megaranger (both only have about half the series subbed).
