Do Japanese People Really....

....always talk in proclamations and symbolism?

From anime, to manga, to tokusatsu, to now Letters From Iwo Jima.... 70% of what is said or more seems to always be dramatic proclamation and have symbolism.

Which is FINE by me, because I get like a 14 year old girl at a boy band concert when my favorite Japanese heroes start talking like that, but.... in non-scripted Japan, do they really use so many proverbs, speak in proclamation and use so much symbolism?

Thats a big no. Well it depends on the person, cuz theres some weirdos out there, but overall, its similar to how we say phrases and quotes, veeeery sparingly. But it mite seem that they use more often than english-speakers, when we translate, simply because common phrases and sayings that they'ld use in everyday life, would need to be explained because its not similar to english.

I think its just something they throw into dramas/anime/others jsut to keep it interesting, and it gives the speaker a kinda.... dorky feel to them. *shrug* but basically I would have to say no. Although the jpn seem to know a whole lot more proverbs than we do :D

Okay, cuz I was wondering. While watching Letter From Iwo Jima, I kept sensing such implied and lofty meaning behind everything said. Not that I even get close to being tired of it.

It's just, it got me wondering if their language and culture is structured in a way that you're guaranteed to say something cool 65% of the time you talk.

That's just the advantage of being pre-scripted, you can sound cool a lot of the time because some guy sat around thinking up cool things for you to say.

I wish I had a writer for me in real life...

Presentation is a lot of it too. Now, if you were writing in Chinese Script, like the Ancient Texts - Confucious, Mencius, you'd have to be versed in poetry and the like, since EVERYTHING alludes to those kind of texts.

  After watching a lot of toku and anime, it looks as if that there is quite a big number of cool dudes out there in Japan. Each one with his own catch phrase and iconic moves and gestures.

I mean, we've scripted stuff here in Amerian, but only 5% of the time do you get stuff that carries such weight, symbolism and almost never any proclamations or proverbs that aren't cliche crap.
