Do gaming skills improve with age?

Well, you can research the topic and you'll see for yourself that after the age of 25 physical and mental performance start to decline. That's the sole reason why people go to school and college before this age, when they are younger, so that they learn as much as they can, while their brain activity is at its peak. With age a person can become wiser, more experienced and calmer which would definitely add up to their intellect, but their mind speed gets more sluggish - science have proved this over and over again. It's slow and subtle process, one may not notice it instantly. It also depends on one's genes, stress levels, levels of exercise and nutrition how fast would this decline happen. Why do you think people get dementia and Alzheimer's when they become old?
Not sure about your research but it is definitely not true in our demographic area. We have lesser cases of alzheimers. My grandparents in 80s had lot better better memory than some of us. Physically after 60s most of the people in our region slow down. Mind you we don't have snow here. And 12 months all of the year people are functional. So that could be one part that may affect. Science journals need to be region and the context specific for this to be true.

No question that the new technologies mess with our head, gaming included, but to what extent, it's hard to say. That is why gaming with moderation is the best we can do.

Yes indeed technology is making us forget things quicker. And for this reason we have to be more focused on how we remember things. And we have to work on things that can help with memory. I guess in such scenario we have to learn to take time out.

Of course yes, age and experience are the two things that aids in improving one's gaming skills. The more you get older and played more often, you are bound to get better and better every day. The way I think out playing strategy now is practically different from how I used to do when I was much younger. Now I can relax and keep calm to device up perfect strategy for successful gaming.

Actually, with age the brain becomes slower and sluggish just like physical movements. The human brain/body are at their peak up until the age of 25. After this we slowly decline. That's why we have to train our body and mind to stay in top shape as long as we can.

On the topic, I'd say I was best at mastering new games when I was 16-17. Now it takes more time and effort to learn a new game, but I am calmer. When I was younger I would easily get frustrated if I lose a game/battle.

As much as your opinion makes good sense, but I would still disagree on some figures of the age that you used in analysis. Being older gives you more gaming experience with the game unlike when you are too young playing. I am sure that there are still people who are well above 35 years of age that plays so well that a teenager cannot best him no matter how hard the kid player tried. But getting down to 45 to 50 years upwards, here I'm sure the player would have diminishing return.

I think another piece to the puzzle would be the responsibility thing-and your mind may be more on paying your bills,or on your family and your health when you get older. I think with these things going on in your mind, that it could really slow your gaming enthusiasm down a bit. I think gaming is for everybody but professional gaming is for the young !

Exactly. Though memory lapse is a thing that I don't deny. but not all people of all age are going to suffer with dementia in old age. And so we can say that some old people can manage things lot better in that context.

Compare your gaming skills now and when you were still very young. At which age do you master a new game faster?

I think that I master new games faster when I was a lot younger but the good part of getting older with experience in the game is that finesse at which I play it now is completely difficult from what it used to be like when I was still a teenager.

You are absolutely right, experience and age makes you get better with games. It's not that there aren't teenagers who game exceptionally good but nothing beats experience in something. So therefore the one with more experience would always get a better way to do it than one who just started doing the same thing.

I completely agree with you about this. I have some old people whom their memory is as sharp as ever. I can still remember one lecturer in my university days when I was still in school, this man is roughly about 78 years old and his mind still works like that of a teenager because he's still well good with remembering things and teaching well.
