Did Gokaiger shoot itself in the foot...

The only thing they won't be able to do is participate with in-suit scenes, otherwise, they can still do a whole lot of action sequences.

I mean gaining the powers of previous Riders was really one of the few things Decade did good.

Nah, the least Decade influence, the better.

If the old rangers had their powers they should all be fighting the Zangyack together, like happened at the war. Meeting and joining one team per time would make no sense. There's no alternate worlds **** here, after all.

They have to meet each one of them at different times, since that's where their adventure is rooted... It's to find the treasure, and in so doing, they would have to go through the trials of being worthy of the Sentai powers.

I would say that Toei is trying to make Gokaiger unique in a sense that when you talk about it, you don't go around comparing it with other well-known Tokus that celebrated their anniversary ...

When Ultraman celebrated its 40th, they had Mebius meeting the Ultra Brothers. When Kamen Rider celebrated their Heisei 10th anniversary, they had Decade who goes around claiming to be the Destroyer of Worlds while having the ability to becoming the past 9 Heisei Riders

So where does Gokaiger stands? Basically, they are taking the concept of Ultra and Kamen Rider anniversary season and making it their own

It would make a lot of sense. The Zangyack have a huge army apparently. There's no reason they must focus their attack solely on one point of the planet. Skyrider used the same format, when it started doing team ups, with the excuse of Neo Shocker being a worldwide treat and the Riders fighting all around the world against them.

Having multiple teams in various locations fighting against the Zangyack and the Gokaiger meeting them during their travels would have worked without problems. It'd also avoid making the Zangyack look as incompetent as they do currently, considering how it'd take team ups to beat them in isolated battles, while they'd still be around elsewhere.

Well, that's only if you take the Zangyack incompetence as a problem instead of as a plot point; the Zangyack earth invasion force is being led by Walz Gil, the incompetent son of the emperor who only got the job because he's riding on daddy's coattails. In episode nine, he finds about how Damaras and Insarn are trying to keep the Gokaigers from getting the Legendary Power, and he dismisses it as irrelevant, pissing off Damaras while Insarn conspicuously made herself scarce. This sets the stage for internal conflict in the villains camp, which to me is much more interesting to watch than the villains working like a well oiled machine.

Yes, and considering the format of the show, I'm afraid that having the past senshi have fight scenes might take away more of the spotlight from the Gokaigers.

Yeah, it's supposed to be all about the Gokaigers now. The other 34 sentai teams had their time to shine.

The only way they're going to be fighting again once more is during the movies &/or near the end of the series as some others said.

The Zangyack still could have an incompetent leadership even attacking on multiple fronts though. The effect would just be making its Action Commanders and general grunt forces into more credible threats.

I'll believe it when I see it. So far there's no internal conflict and no signs of it either, just Gil shitting on anything the other villains want to do that's genuinely interesting and the others bending over and taking it because they have no choice. The characters just aren't written with a hierarchy that will let any of them get away with conflict or scheming of any sort.

So hopefully, down the line, we'll see someone else take over who will get some **** done. But I think it's fair to complain when you're nine episodes in and the villains haven't even once mounted a vaguely credible threat. It's logical and in character, sure; that doesn't mean it's interesting to watch.
