You're using an example of a very small group of people to define a much larger group. I seriously doubt EVERY Otaku seriously believes they're dating an anime character. You think because Forever Red has "My wife, Sydney Drew" as his title, that he seriously believes he's dating her?

And no, no one alive acts like people do on that show. NO ONE ALIVE except for comedic japanese actors who are told to.

Well, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree then. Perhaps our personal experiences with Otaku have been different and so we have different perceptions of how they are...

Not different perceptions...you two have just been in touch with different types. There are more than one type of Otaku, the ones like most of the posters here that just go with it and do what they like. The ones that try to hide it out of fear of rejection...and the ones that more or less cut off all contact they had with anyone that they knew before they became an Otaku.

...and yeah, there are some people who act like the posters on Densha Otoko.
