When has death ever stopped American superheros? This is one of the reasons I don't like western comics, alot of it has 'America is invincible" undertones in it.
Death of Spider-Man???

Marvel Preview Teases Death of Spider-Man
All I could think to say when I read of this was "Again?"
That's what I was going to say! "Again?"
The "Death of" shtick has worn out its welcome. The confused public couldn't care less anymore.
Darwyn Cooke sums it up best:
“I think everybody in the world likes and understands what a comic is. Except for the people in the direct market. Honest to God. No. Case in point. I’m going to prove my point right here, right now: They do a movie called Batman Begins. Huge success….so they gear up for a sequel. Well lo and behold [Heath Ledger, the actor who plays] the villain in the sequel dies. There’s Oscar talk. The movie’s being hyped and hyped and hyped. So DC’s reaction is [to] kill Bruce Wayne. So anyone coming in off the movie to buy a Batman comic won’t know what the **** is going on. That explains it all to me. You know? [The direct market is] so trapped within itself it doesn’t even understand the world outside of it or what’s there.â€
And with a new Spidey movie in the works, no less! And Marvel has to make jackass decisions with their comics such as the above, and when the movie comes out, people will be like, "Didn't they already kill Spider-Man?"
More to the point, I remember when the 1989 Batman movie came out, and many classmates at school assumed that the reason Robin wasn't in it was because of the Death in the Family comic (and assume that Jason Todd was the same character as Dick Grayson)! Some people easily confuse movie continuity with current comic continuity.
The ends justify the means...
Actually I can see Marvel actively trying to screw with any of the outside movie productions now, it has to be why the X-books are in such disarray you know outside the fact Marvel's editors are horrible at their jobs. And with a new Spidey movie in the works, no less! Darwyn Cooke's a talented writer. Way better than me.
...He still has no idea WTF he's talking about, dude. Allow me to point you to an article, sir:
It's called The Mythical Small Piece of the Pie Argument. It's pretty on point...'cause it's not 1989 anymore.
Actually I can see Marvel actively trying to screw with any of the outside movie productions now, it has to be why the X-books are in such disarray you know outside the fact Marvel's editors are horrible at their jobs.
This also explains the problem with the Batman titles, Mike Marts the group editor rose to prominence as the X-Men editor during the Nu-Marvel era and was the one that signed off on House of M.
Also the Mythical Small Piece of the Pie Argument is full of crap too, since it is an excuse more than anything. The fact that comics don't sell to a bigger market is squarely the publisher's fault. Since the 90's crash there has been little effort to expand the market anymore, and the business practices of the industry has forced it into being a niche product. If you want to a product to sell it needs to available and accessible, both of which modern comics aren't. If the means of production and distribution are outdated it is their responsibility to do something about it.
