Continuity in Kamen Rider

On thing I've noticed is that for the most part, each rider series has been it's own little world.
So I'm trying to figure out which rider series are continuations of previous seasons.
Obviously theirs V1-V3, and I think Agito is a continuation of sorts to Kuuga. Then Den-O and the new series.
What other seasons of KR have been continuations of others.
And also, do you think that being a continuation helps or detracts from the experience of watching it.

All the showa riders are in the same world. (save for Black, RX, J and ZO?)

Some people think Kiva and Den-O are the same world, some don't. I don't mind either way.

Kamen Rider ~ BLACK RX all take place within the same timeline. Kuuga and Agito take place in their own world, and everything since then has been stand alone.

I think that the fact that Kiva characters are in two of Den-o's movies are enough to say Den-o and Kiva share the same world also. But in no way is it a continuation.

 

[Fantasy Leader]

Kamen Rider 1 through Kamen Rider Stronger all take place in the same world, since Tobei Tachibana is present in all of them. I suppose due to the events in ZX, Skyrider and Super-1 are also part of that world.

According to Toei, Black takes place in it's own universe.

As for Black RX, it's a sequel to Black, but in the finale, it brings back all of the past riders. So in a way, Black RX is kind of like a merge of the previous two worlds.

The next world, is Kuuga and Agito. We know they share the same, due to "Unidentified Life Form Number 4" (Kuuga) being mentioned like in episode 2 of Agito. I also heard that Ryuki is also part of this world, but I've yet to watch Ryuki, so I'm not sure.

As for Den-o taking place in the same world as Kiva and Decade, I'm not sure. Haven't seen those seasons yet. And I could be wrong, but are the Kamen Rider movies where they team up, considered canon to the series? Since in Sentai (also made by Toei), their team up movies are considered non-canon and are part of a separate timeline. Not sure if this was also the case for Kamen Rider.

Climax deka takes place sometime after the end of the series. Chou den o takes place during the time when Tsukasa(decade) is in the den o world. During chou den o, character from kiva show up.

I've never thought of Climax Deka took place within either series continuity, so I tend to just count them as separate series. I had no idea BLACK was considered its own universe by Toei and...it really doesn't make sense since RX throws it out the window.

Also Godai/Kuuga mentioned his old teacher named Hongo Takeshi in one of the Kuuga episodes so some also threw Kuuga in the Original Rider timeline but I figured it as more of a tribute to Rider 1.

BLACK was starting off on its own little thing, this has since been retconned. If you want to know what the other 10 Riders were up to during the end of BLACK when Japan was going to hell in a handbasket... they were off punching cacti and kicking tumbleweeds in Arizona. No really, they were presumably fighting somebody else.

Also: Toei's official stance on Kamen Rider "continuity": they're all connected when they need to be, and the rest of the time they just don't worry about it. :laugh:
