Choujin Sentai Jetman - "Welcome to the Party Pal!" Edition.. Discussion

Don't get me wrong, Gai being a pathetic loser is still fascinating to watch. However, there does seem to be a severe disconnect between the Gai in the show and the Gai in the fandom and I'm really curious as to where it comes from.

We like Gai because he is an ahole. Face it, aholes make some of the best characters in literature. The other half is being a psychopath.

I don't know how far you've seen, so what I'm saying may qualify as spoilers.

The difference is that Gai DOESN'T get the girl until he learns to change his approach and attitude. When he starts to approach more gently, stops trying to bully her, she stops being afraid of him. It's not his bullying that wins her, but his continued consideration and desperate throwing his life between her and the monsters that were going to kill her. Not to mention Ryu's steady refusal to give her any reason to think he'll get together with her.
Yeah but they broke up because Gai ultimately couldn't be gentle and kept being to much of a bad ass for high society. Cause a bad ass is always a bad ass.

I've always felt that bit where Gai leaves Kaori as being the result of Gai realizing that he doesn't actually like her all that much. In fact, I doubt he ever did-- he just wanted someone to acknowledge that he was "better" than Ryu. When Gai leaves Kaori is around the time Gai stops feeling resentful of Ryu, and is shortly before the two characters reconcile.

I also feel it is the dinner scene with Kaoru's parents when Gai realizes he is not fit for her.
