Ok, so I'm picky about my chopsticks. I hate plastic ones with a passion yet the Chinese and Korean stores in my area tend to sell the "imitated ivory" type. I'm still getting used to this type since the grocery stores no longer sell the bamboo type from China.
Some how I'm not surprised due to the news that China was increasing the costs for the cheap bamboo type that many Japanese people are accustomed to using. I can't remember where I read the news article but it came as a surprise to me but thought nothing of it. After all, I thought, the increase was only going to affect the Japanese.
WRONG.
As a result of the increase in cost, my favorite chopsticks are no longer sold in any of my local stores and I haven't been able to find them online. I found one type of bamboo chopsticks but with very sharp pencil ends that make picking up things from the tips very difficult. I'm not use to that style any more then plastic ones. What's most they cost more.
A package of 10 pairs of bamboo "normal" types use to cost 99 cents. roughly 9 cents a pair. These are the type you normal find at Chinese-American resturants. (left in pic)
A package of 10 pairs of "imitated ivory" costs $1.99, roughly 19 cents a pair. (center)
A package of 6 pairs of bamboo "pencil" types cost $2.49, roughly 42 cents a pair. (right)
All I want are the type I'm accustomed to using. Anyone know where I can find those types (left in pic) online?
