The King-man's totally right here. The Olympics are about athletes and the sense of sportsmanship that brings them together to compete. Politics has as much place in the Olympics as prayers have a place in the public school system. In other words...NONE.
You'd think that the protesters would realize that these attempts to put out the Olympic torch and disrupt it's run is NOT helping their cause any. Did the people who are participating in the Olympic run have anything to do with what the Chinese government has done? No, of course not. Will disrupting the Olympic run actually DO anything positive to help their cause? Again, NO, of course not. If anything, the protesters are HURTING their own cause by these constant displays of misdirected rage and their mob-mentality.
If you want to protest the Chinese government, then PROTEST AGAINST THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT. The athletes competing in the Olympics have no say whatsoever in anything that their government does, so why should they be targeted, blamed, and hurt for something that they didn't do?
The answer is simple. They shouldn't.
Except the Chinese Government is using the Olympics as one big PR campaign designed partly to present themselves as the next great nation and probably the best suited nation to challenge the US as a Superpower and across the globe.
Protesting what's going on in Tibet via the Olympics casts credibility and doubt on China's plans and puts them in an uncomfortable positions of their own making.
I would do what France is doing and boycott the opening ceremony. Let the athletes compete fine but boycott the opening ceremony, that would be message enough for me.
