Cartoon Network Embraces Live Action In 2010

...Let's see what CN has planned for 2009, Cartoon wise.

-Total Drama island.

- The Garfield Show (CGI).

-Hot Wheels Battle Force 5.

-Pink Phanther and Pals.

-Cartoon institute.

Shows that are up in the air are Powerpuff Girls Z and Naruto Shippuden.

That's all they have new for 2009. They need something and it happens to be Live Action.

The second season of TDI is Total Drama Action (TDA).

And "Cartoon Institute" is acutally named Cartoonstitute. It should be good! Craig McCracken (one of my favorite artists) is one of the creators of this program. It's along the lines of What A Cartoon!, featuring new cartoon talent.

I think this is lame. It's cartoon network. Put more cartoons on. If they want to do live action, make another network. But then, I only watch CN for Transformers animated.

Although I wholeheartedly agree with you, the execs there are trying to compete with Disney and Nickelodeon, which have better ratings with teen sitcoms than cartoons! (And, if we're lucky, anime shows.) To CN, kids and tweens are their target audience, so they have to one-up Nick and Disney to be better. Really, I hate it.

I loved much of MTV's animated programming, the last good things they had left. But when they stopped caring for animation after Daria ended (Clone High USA, among other shows, got cancelled), I gave up on it. It's nothing but crass reality show decadence.

MTV's animated shows are now much more at home on Adult Swim.

Gotta love Rob Sorcher's quote for CN's upcoming live-action programs:

"They all fall under a sort of teenage-boy wish-fulfillment scenario. They're action dramas for the most part."

And people are going to be bored by this. Those programs have the same plot. They all sound like weak carbon copies of Ben 10!

But then, we're fans of Japanese monster movies and superhero shows with the same basic plot, so what do we know?

I just found some Interesting **** out. If Disney sold Power Rangers, Cartoon Network would be the best option to buy the rights. Wanna know why?

Not all of them sound like Ben 10, mind you (some sound like Sci-Fi Channel wannabes), but that's the general idea. When I read the plots for most of these shows (not the ones that don't have plot descriptions; they could fall into the SFC wannabe category, for all I know!), they fall into the same superficial category as Ben 10: adolescent male power (and "wish-fulfillment") fantasies. It's just not my cup of tea.

I assume it's because there's no other place for it to go.

But that's only IF Disney sells Power Rangers. We don't even know if CN would be interested or not, so let's not jump the gun.
