Can the Philippines make a decent tokusatsu?

If the masses ask for a fantasy, what if I made the setting as postmodern as Final Fantasies 7, 8, and 13?

Well..Maybe you can get away with something similar to Final Fantasy VIII (8).

As far as I can tell, the masses in the Philippines pay to see romance and "Love Teams" (can I choke myself for saying that over and over again?) Knowing the TV execs there, they'd stick a popular pairing to play "Squall" and "Rinoa". Another bishie could play "Seifer".

i hate to say it but the public is too narrow minded to watch non-soap, non-romance tv shows... there should always be a childhood prequel story before the main story begins... damn

To Answer that question: Based on the trailer, I say the Philippine film industry is capable of coming up with mind-blowing Sci-fi/Tokusatsu films. Only problem is, It doesn't get the support it needs, as most people would pay to see romance, and nothing but.

I planned of adapting El Filibusterismo into a motion picture for five years. That novel, along with its predecessor (Noli Me Tangere), had Spanish friars and noblemen as the main villains. The last time El Fili was adapted to a motion picture was in 1962, directed by National Artist Gerardo de Leon. It was shot in grainy black-and-white (which is considered "baduy" by current bakya standards), being the sequel to GDL's film adaptation of Noli Me Tangere, which was released for Jose Rizal's birth centennial in 1961.

However, over the years, straight-up adaptations of Noli and El Fili were more suited for theater (sorry, limited seats and schedule) than television and cinema because there would be a possibility for an X rating by the MTRCB (which means the films are to be exhibited only at the UP Film Center) and rantings from the CBCP (the developers would get excommunicated if they happen to be Roman Catholic, even declaring them "persona non grata" Hayden Kho-style).

Filipinos nowadays (especially the "jejemons") would "nosebleed" on good ol' stage shows and prefer video games, soapish telenovelas, and cheap fantasy films to them!

I doubt they'll make a decent toku in the next 20 years. the market here loves to watch love stories, love stories and love stories [which I believe has the same over and over again]. When a show or movie here gets a special effect in a scene, it always looks bad. they need to catch up with other countries most likely to produce that good effects we see in the japanese shows we watch or the US shows we tune in.

Another thing, no matter what the story in, they'll insert love story in it. which will make it suck. Example of that is Lastikman tv series. It was good at first. But when she met a beautiful girl, the story revolved mostly in winning her and being the hero came last. damn.

I'll say it again: The networks should increase their SFX budgets, as that's the prime issue we have for toku.

As for merchandise-driven kids shows like Sentai and Rider, forget about them for now. Weekday Primetime is where the networks win big, as that's the time when virtually everyone is watching.
