I like it to be overall serious in tone but with healthy helpings of humorous moments to break the tension and lighten the mood at times. The comedy should never be forced (Ryuki) and should generally appear to arise naturally during character interactions, where it should remind us that these are indeed real people with real bonds, rather than just fighting automatons who are solely focused on their angst or which monster they'll be fighting next. Agito is a perfect example... and also the earlier Hibiki episodes. Having said that, I shall now prepare to be lynched by some people for putting Hibiki and Agito in the same sentence.
