Here is how I veiw all of the Star Trek captains:

Kirk-A doer, rushes into things without thinking

Picard-A thinker, but takes just too long to make a fucking Decision.

Sisko-The ultimate captain. He was a thinker, a doer, and a messiah-like figure in a alien mythology.

Janeway-A homocidal maniac.This crazy bitch got her entire crew stuck in the Delta Quadrant and destroyed a device that could have took them home in the first episode.

Archer-What the hell?

He was a main character. His rank was "Captain"

He was a Lt.Commander during the entire run of TOS as well as the first movie. He didn't attain the rank of Captain until the second movie, and even then he deferred rank/authority to Kirk. We never really got a chance to see Spock do anything significant during the time he was Captain. As such, I'd say that it wouldn't really be fair to Spock to include him in this poll.

He was a Lt.Commander during the entire run of TOS as well as the first movie. He didn't attain the rank of Captain until the second movie, and even then he deferred rank/authority to Kirk. Of course he had to defer rank to Kirk. He wasn't the highest ranking officer on the ship. That was Kirk because at that time he was ranked Admiral. And we did get to see him act as a captain in VI: The Undiscovered Country(of course, Kirk wasn't there).
