So, anyone ever read the epic tale in Old English? Yea, not a picnic to read but I've read it in one of my classes back in college. (Chaucer is Middle English and that was nearly as bad.)

There's a new Beowulf (animated?) movie, November 2007, starring:

Ray Winstone - Beowulf
Anthony Hopkins - King Hrothgar
Crispin Glover - Grendel
Robin Wright Penn - Queen Wealhtheow
Alison Lohman - Ursula
John Malkovich - Unferth
Angelina Jolie - Grendel's mother

There was also be a SciFi original movie in January 2007, called Grendel, starring Chris Bruno as Beowulf, Ben Cross as King Hrothgar and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi on Star Trek: TNG) as Queen Wealhtheow. The SciFi movie changed Grendel from being a member of Cain's decendants to that of a Nephilim (child born to a human mother with an Angel father - an abomination to God according to the Jewish Torah).

Had to read it back in high school and I'm on of the few peopel I know that didn't like it. Not because of the reasons like "OMG! IT'S SO LOOONG!", it's because there are only three interesting parts in the book, the rest of it is just bragging and history.

If I wanted to read/hear that, I'd just listen to a really bad rap song nowadays.

...SICK BURN!

But yeah, maybe the movie will be slightly more interesting than the source material.

I read it back in my schoolin days. Nice little story. I have a movie featuring the highlander guy titled Beowulf I think.

^ The one with Christopher Lambert? How was it? I was curious to see how they interpreted the story, given that that version was set in a post-apocalyptic setting, if I remember correctly.

I dont remember how it was, I watched it years ago. From what I barely remember it was ok. It wasnt a bad movie anyway

I've got a copy of Beowulf sitting right here on my desk at all times. but I don't think they'll ever be able to do the work Justice.

As awesome as this looks, I wish they gave Grendel and Grendel's mom more 'monster-ish' looks.

And yes, I have read the original epic and loved it.
