At some point on the set of Wednesday, executive producer Tim Burton, star Jenna Ortega and directors Alfred Gough and Miles Millar came to the same conclusion: “NOW is the time to make a Beetlejuice sequel, and we can do it together.” Thus the impossible became possible after so many false starts, and a trailer for an actual sequel to the macabre 1988 classic exists today. Every living actor has returned for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, with the exception of Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis (they have yet to explain where the Maitlands are, but we don’t really need them anyway). The important thing is that Michael Keaton is back in full ghost makeup, belching and going “darlin” and making impossible faces with the aid of….stop-motion! Yes, they kept the stop-motion. That’s the most exciting thing this trailer reveals: there’s some CG, as it’s impossible to paste a movie together without computers now, but whenever a thing happens, it’s hand-animated.
