Beauty and Cosmetics 101

Faded.Memories

Im not straight but my boyfriend is
*Ahem* Yes. I know, a thread like this will probably sink to the bottom of HJU where it will twitch and die, buuut...I thought I'd give it a try.

This thread is for the ladies (and any men) with beauty/cosmetics reviews, tips, questions, or hauls.

I made this thread because I quite enjoy cosmetics, and I'm pretty good with them. One of my pastimes is watching a few of my fave make up gurus on youtube for looks and tricks.

Anyways, I'm going to start off with a tiny review of this product:

Dior Lip Glow

[hide]

This is a lipstick that goes on with a slight, pinkish tinge, and then reacts with your lip's natural pigments or chemistry or what have you, and changes into a colour suitable to your skin tone. So EVERY skin tone can wear this, which is fabulous, and it looks different on each and every girl.

I LOVE this stuff. I bought it, and I haven't used a regular lipstick SINCE (which...is kinda bad news for my old lipsticks...heh).

What I love about it:

- It isn't heavy or sticky; it feels more like a lip balm than a lipstick
- It is a perfect colour for my skin tone, for a casual, every day sort of look.
- If I kiss Faiz, it doesn't smear colour onto him.
- The colour can be deepened or jazzed up easily with a gloss, without feeling 'caked on'.

What I hate about it:

- costs $35 :(

So yeah. Any input (positive) is welcome. Let's NOT troll my thread, kay guys?

Heh. David off. Sounds like an anti-David repellant.

I'm not typically one for chemical colognes/perfumes (it irritates the back of my throat), though sometimes I'm caught off guard by lovely smelling people.

:laugh::laugh:

It doesn't smell too bad, though so I grabbed a bottle.

I rarely use them, it's really more of a "I'll but it on when I want to" Kind of a deal, but if it's something like a wedding or a family get together, then for sure I'll put some on.

I don't mind people wearing colognes or prefumes, I just don't like it when people have too much of the stuff on, I have a sensitive nose so it irritates it easily.

I have a question about stuff you can use on dry skin. I have rosacea. It is a skin condition that I have to take medication for, but the meds dry out my hands and face and feet sometimes. Is there any lotion that would be best for that. It can't have any alcohol in it, and I prefer stuff not tested on animals.

I had a similar condition about 9-10 years ago, I'd recommend Purpose Dual Treatment, it worked for me. But I think it has some alcohol in it, not sure.

So I need some make up, foundation, cover up, or whatever to cover up some beard shadow and bags under my eyes. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, or tutorials?

Well, I don't know about covering up beard shadow (I suppose you could just use concealer), but here's a video on how to conceal under the eyes using the brand "Wet n Wild", which I believe is a cheap drugstore brand you guys should have.

You could also use any concealers from any brands over top of a foundation, some names are:

- Erase Paste from "Benefit" ($26)
- Studio Sculpt Concealer by "MAC"
- 24/7 Concealer by "Urban Decay" ($17)
- Secret Concealer by "Laura Mercier" ($22)

Those are pricey though, and pretty much any brand (even drugstore brands, which are cheaper) will have a concealer. My suggestion is if you are looking to get rid of the shadow and under eye circles, you'll have to find a foundation that matches your skin tone (which you'll have to ask a cosmetics consultant at the store you go into), and also purchase a concealer.

Oh, there's Sephora's website and Ulta's website which also carry different brands of makeup you can browse, just type in 'concealer'.

I'm not sure if you're interested, but if you want to know latest beauty product or cosmestic, you should check out Pincstuff.

She does reviews of the latest beauty product or cosmestic and she does online make-up tutorials.

Here's some examples:

VERY cute! I'll have to check her out. My FAVOURITE guru is a makeup artist named Samantha Chapman (pixiwoo) who lives in the UK (her sister, Nicola, also uses that channel).

I think she's absolutely gorgeous, I love her personality, and she's got a voice to die for. I LOVE HER.

And sometimes she gets her sister in law to come and sit for her while she applies the make up, and her sister in law is ALSO gorgeous. Like...seriously.

Some of the other gurus I watch:

- Fafinettex3
- MakeupGeekTV
- Kandee Johnson
- Panacea81

Those are just a few of the girls I like to watch.

I usually stick to cheap eyeliner and coloured eyeshadow, but I've been meaning to try experimenting more with paint and colour on the cheeks, above and below the eyes etc for a few gigs and promo nights coming up at work since they like to get colourful (sort of like Adam Ant, Bat For Lashes, ravey or even cyberpunk-ish, I guess?)... Any suggestions for anything very vibrant, sharp not smudgy?

Rimmel.

And you're lucky because its based out of England ;)

They're a cheapish, drugstore brand, but they've got lovely, popping colours that sound fun for you.

Or you could try Illamasqua, which is ALSO based out of England, and I hear it's becoming all the rage now. However, they are a bit more expensive.

And you say 'paint' above and below the eyes...sooo you might want to try an eyeliner/lip liner; they would be easy to draw with, and they stick well/come out vibrant. And there are tons of colours out there.

I'm also going to show you this video, because she actually uses eyeshadows on the temples and cheeks to create a fun, bright look, that might be useful to you:
