Ban is one of the coolest rangers...

Actually, I liked Ban in those first two episodes, when he went after that Alienizer who killed a child on another planet. "That little boy wanted to be a space policeman, and he died in my arms! I won't forgive you!" That was pretty badass, and it really got to me.

I'm with you on that, I loved that part! And I think it's the only time his yelling shtick worked.

Those first two episodes of Dekaranger certainly had me fooled. Between that, a general old-school feeling, the heroes not acting like 'tards and a cool cameo by Takanori "Another Agito" Kikuchi, I thought Deka was going places, I thought we were going to have a cool, even great sentai. And while I enjoyed Abaranger, I can't say it's a great sentai, and I certainly don't keep it in mind with my real favorites (as Aba's the only sentai from the '00s I've enjoyed, but look at its competition).

So, what the hell went wrong? Why were those two episodes pretty tolerable, but the rest of the series shot to hell? It was one of the biggest turnarounds a tokusatsu show has taken! Two episodes before crashing and burning.

Ban's a disgrace to Reds, though. I think I'm going to write a fan-fic in the style of Reservoir Dogs, where Ban and Yousuke/Hurrcane Red are like Marvin the cop -- captured, held hostage and constantly beat upon by Naoya Makoto, Haruki Hamada, Daisuke Shima, Keiichi Wada and Masaru Shishido all day, everyday.

His throat ripping screaming got on my last goddamn nerves. He has his moments when he's not spazzing and flipping out, but for the most part I definately wouldn't hang out with the guy.

He was a good guy, and a good leader. He was funny and brave, and whenever the team needed some inspiration or kind words, he was there to give it...he just felt the need to say every damn thing at 180 decibels.

Hmm...lots to respond to and I can't be bothered to quote everyone, sooo...forgive the laxness ^^

Ban - yes, he did sometimes yell too much, but in general, I think the character grew on me. I thought his pseudo-love story arc was cute. His dynamic with Houji and "calling of aibo", it marks perfectly the kind of personality that Ban has - and that comes into play at the end, which I thought was a nice touch.

Sure he's not what I would consider a numero uno Red, but I think his approach worked for what Deka was going for. I would say, that although I didn't mind the screaming at 1000 decibels TOO MUCH, perhaps he'd be a easier to take if he muted that a bit. He reminded me a bit of MegaRed (before you jump all over that), because he managed to find a way in each situation. I do agree though, that MegaRed was a better Red than Deka.

Shougo: if you ever write such a fic...that would be freaking hilarious! :anime:

MJRM: if you ever run across all of mask...hook me up. I saw this in Korea without knowing what it was and was hooked at first ep.

Haha Jade, your crack me up! And to answer your PM, no, I am neither a mindreader nor reading over your shoulder!

I really like Ban's personallity. And while he does tend to voice his opinions....ah hell, let's face it...EVERYTHING he says at ear-shattering levels, it fits his character, and I don't mind at all.

And I must be one of the only ones that actually PREFER DekaRed over MagiRed.
