Are you gonna give Star Trek a chance?

I know I say this a lot but its pretty true, I see it as the Bayformers of the entire franchise. Aside from the same writer and feel the movie has, it pretty much serves the same purpose to the Star Trek franchise as Bayformers did to the Transformers franchise.

To have crappy TF designs, a story that has nothing to do with the concept it is based on, and to be a love story about a kid and not about the TF's?

Not like that, by serves the same purpose I meant it pretty much "reboots" the franchise, puts in back into the public eye, draws in millions upon millions of cash with box office and merchandising, puts in sequels and spin offs in place, and appeals the nerdy franchise to the non geek masses.

The impression I'm getting from interviews in the various magazines is that the idea seems to be more that the original series had no real beginning and for the original crew there was never a real starting point of how that group got together to set forth on their 5-year mission. So it seems the primary goal of the film is to do that story. A story that would be in effect the origin story of Star Trek.

From what I have read apparently canon still counts with this film. I don't know how every little detail would be reconciled (like the i-pod bridge of the current movie vs. the cardboard-yet-cool original bridge set) but at least in interviews they're not calling it a reboot.
