Are Space Sheriffs and Metal Heroes the same?

Yeah, odd question. I was randomly browsing the Toei DVD site and noticed that Metal Heroes and Space Sheriffs aren't listed under the same category (the other Metal Heroes are jammed into one listing while SS get their own), so I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light. Does Toei consider them different series or are they just being wahahacky Toei again?

As a whole, they're the same but when it comes to franchise, well, it's a different story. I have to admit but they are not the same in terms of storylines and space sheriffs are more human in action than any other Metal Heroes.

They're still metal heroes -- they're involved in all of the metal hero specials like the soundtrack compilations -- I think Toei just likes to single out the Uchuu Keiji and show them special treatment since those are the more well known and liked of the metal hero shows.

Yep.

Space Sheriffs all the way to the R-Robos are under 1 brand.

Yeah, you still see new merchandise for the Space Sheriff shows to this day. (Just walking around an unremarkable part of Tokyo, I recall seeing a lot of posters for a Gavan pachinko machine.)

The rest of Metal Hero sees more obscure. When I was trawling the second-hand hobby shops, there was next to nothing for it.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but the title "Metal Heroes" didn't exist when the franchise first started right? It wasn't until at least Jiraiya had aired, that the title "Metal Heroes" came into use. Right?
