I don't have problems either with random encounters, I see it as a part of the game, something to keep me at the tip of my toes. As for improving the game with no encounters, I suppose it depends on each one's preferences.
Sure, but they can get really tiring eventually.

Yeah, but when we get tired from a game and we aren't up for the challenge, nothing like taking a break and return later to enjoy the game fully.

Too much of it isn't good in my opinion because it strains gamers but when it's limited in an average manner, then it's definitely appropriate and I doubt anyone would have anything to complain about.

I think random characters add more fun in the story. As you can see that some of the time it can be change in the way plot works. And another thing is that it'd be not that bad for the story if they get added. In most of the RPG having random characters is often fun.
