Anyone found a good acne cure?

Diet really isn't a cause of acne, at least not for everybody. For the most part, acne is always caused by some form of irritated, inflamed, or unwashed skin. Some "bad" studies were released a while back saying foods with a lot of saturated fats affected acne, but the results were very skewed and not objective.

That being said, yeah, just take care of yourself. I've never had a problem with acne, even through puberty where most of it occurs. I guess you could always use Mary Kay though if it does come up.

Ok, I need to clear up some suggestions given above....

Toothpaste: Bad. If you use it as a spot treatement then it needs to be plain white paste not gel, not the type with hydrogen peroxide, just plain white toothpaste. HOWEVER, toothpaste can dry out the skin TOO much which in turn can cause the skin to peel. Do not leave on overnight, 15 minutes is enough. If it burns the skin REMOVE immediately.

Proactive: Expensive, doesn't always work AND cause cause skin irritations as well as burns. Depends on the person's skin. BTW - it's just benzoyl peroxide and sulfur. They claim to use prescription strength dosages which is a lie; the active ingredient in Proactive is benzoyl peroxide 2.5% - that's actually a lower strength then Neutrogena's Clear Pore Cleanser (which is 3.5% benzoyl peroxide).

Accutane: The ingredient name is Isotretinoin and it's not used to treat normal acne but rather to treat cystic acne and acne that does respond to antibiotic treatment.

Soap: Normal soap meant for the body is meant for the body NOT the face. Do not use soaps with perfumes. Invest $3 to $5 on a facial soap and $1 to $3 for a facial brush to wash your face with.

Diet: The old saying that you are what you eat is pretty true. If your diet is primarily junk food then your body isn't healthy BUT at the same time it doesn't mean you have to eliminate junk food from your diet. A proper diet can still include junk food if it's limited. The BEST thing a person can do to their diet is to drink plenty of water.

There are three basic causes for acne: Homoronal changes, bacterial infection and poor skin care. For females, going on the pill can help (SOME) clear up their acne if it's due to hormones. However, most OTC products will not clear up acne if it's a bacterial infection (Propionibacterium acnes) and can make things worse. Again, it really depends on the type of acne a person has and the course of treatment.

There are four types of OTC medications on the market - Benzoyl peroxide, Salicylic acid, Sulfur and Resorcinol but keep in mind that you need to know what type of acne you have in order to use the proper product. Benzoyl peroxide and Salicylic acid are the two most commonly found in OTC products.

Because zits/pimples/acne are caused by different factors only a doctor can determine the best course of treatment however not everyone can afford to see a dermetologist.

Acne outbreaks are usually only linked to high-glycemic foods and foods high in iodine, not fats. So thinks like soda, candy, and white bread could potentially lead to an increased chance of an acne outbreak.

And yeah, body soap isn't the best course of action. It can actually irritate the skin on the face and it doesn't do much to cleanse the pores.

Honestly, I've tried Stridex pads, and they don't work.
Don't eat any junk foods.Foods with oils like Pizza, bacon, ham burgers, and chips.Well, you could sneak into the wemons area of your near by mall and look around for exspensive skin cleanser soap.

Or, you could try the trick I made...

You're gonna need a good 2 hours for this trick.Get some hand lotion(anykind would do), mix it with some rubbing alcohol.Make sure it's mostly hand lotion, less alcohol. Then, put it on your face. All over.DO NOT GET IT INTO YOUR EYES.Let it sit for 1 hour.Rinse off. After your face dries out, get some lemon juice.(or just squeeze them yourself)Soak a small , dry, clean towel in it.Squeeze out the extra juice.Place the towel over your head.Sit for 20 minutes.Take towel off, rinse face with warm water.

Then, after trying it.Your face should clear up slowly if you do this once a day.Make sure you use lotion on your face after you do this trick.

Oh, if your face feels weird, that normal...

WARNING:May experience burning feeling in face, areas where lotion and alcohol solution may cuase redness in skin.Do not get said solution in eyes, if so, rinse with cold water to burning stops. If burning feeling continues, seek medical help.ZaniumRanger is not liable for death, injuries, loss of eye sight, and or skin. This acne removing trick will not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases.Use acne removing trick at your own risk.

It depends on the person. Things like chocolate and fast food get a lot of the blame, not surprisingly, but it doesn't really contibute to the problem in most people. Certain kinds of drugs, like androgens, lithium, and barbiturates can cause acne, and so can certain cosmetics, friction caused by leaning on or rubbing the skin or the pressure from bike helmets, backpacks, or tight collars--even pollution and high humidity can make it worse.

That is the dumbest thing I've read. Sorry but using rubbing alcohol on acne is one of the surest ways to burn the skin. If someone wants to use a product to use as an astringent then that person should use witch hazel.

::shakes head:: hand lotion with rubbing alcohol!? LMAO - Two products that should NEVER go on the face let alone used to treat ACNE.

Well, I guess we're not all quite in agreement, lol.

Before the Stridex, I had been using Walmart's Equate brand acne bads and they didn't seem to working all that well either.

What pisses me off is how i hardly ever had any acne before some time last year and I'm almost 18, and now it just wont go the hell away.

Since Stridex contains Salicylic Acid and it's not working for you then you could try a different OTC product containing Benzoyl peroxide. HOWEVER! If you have a bacterial type of acne or cystic acne then those OTC products will not help you.

Also note, it may take up to two or even three months before you see any improvements.

My own method to preventing acne is to use a facial scrub, while I'm showering. I don't use facial soaps but do use a cold cream and a facial cleanser. Once a week I use a clay mask since I have oily skin and in that clay mask I mix various things depending on my skin condition at the time. I also use an oatmeal and milk (powdered) with plain yogurt once every three to six months. I also love microdermabrasion products but that can get expensive with most products starting at around $30 and it goes up to several hundred dollars.
