So is there anyone here that saw the Sentai shows or were fans of Super Sentai before MMPR came out in the US? Thanks to the Internet, I think most people who were fans of Power Rangers end up discovering the Super Sentai franchise then start watching them.
Yes i actually watched sentai first then PR . It was back in the day and when i was younger i had a jetman bootleg tape along with some metal hero bootleg tapes and a few others such as super inferman from china. They were sold at a local dollar store. The guy was from japan and he sold tons of tokusatsu and anime tapes as well because at the time it was not easily available like it is now. Even though at the time PR was on the air i guess he was selling them to get people to buy then since they are PR related.
As time went on i moved to the west cost of the US and ended up finding independent video game stores that sold imported and bootleg anime and tokusatsu . by this time i was buying them because i knew they were coming out in japan a year before they came out to the us. Now of course there tv nihon and all those other places now.
But i watched jetman and dairanger and at the time i thought i was watching PR i was actually watching zyuranger so i actually grew up with sentai. So i have to say my favorite pre pr sentai is Jetman.
And arnie-kun...let's not forget Shaider, Kamen Rider Black, Seiun Kamen Machineman, Kosoku Sentai Turboranger, and Chojin Sentai Jetman, to name a few more.
When Fiveman was airing I was already in a very competitive high school (at that time my school was the 2nd best public high school in the country). Had to let go of adults in spandex by that time, sadly . Yes, I'm that old.
It was really nice to have a really good English Bioman sub, and Tagalog Maskman/Jetman/Fiveman ones. It's a bummer that local stations don't do DVD/Video releases because that Bioman dub would be really nice around now (well at least before GUIS did it). The GUIS Maskman was also odd to me because it didn't have a lot of the fujoshi transformations (which I found hilarious). Or maybe I'm just remembering wrongly.
/OT: Machineman would probably be my favorite non-Sentai/KR/Space Sherriff show for nostalgia reasons. I could never get enough of Buknoy the fighting ball and that weird-ass Machine Dolphin sequence.
