HALO finds strength and brilliance in its honed simplicity and that's why some many people like it and get into it. It's not because HALO is t3h dumb, it's because it is what it is and one of the best at what it does.
You get a guy... you get a gun... you take that gun... and you shoot stuff.
No bells, whistles, or tweeks that force a you to do a certain game play.
It's the basic building blocks of a shooter and like LEGO's... you build what you want out of the experience.
I'm no where near being a "play everyday" or even much of a "play every week" fan, but lately I have been getting the now and then urge to jam. And there are days when I feel like a darn master composer waling away on a piano.... only I use my thumbs and trigger fingers. My mind dances as I predict my opponents movements, juke left, click the thumb down, draw a beed and blow off his head while my sixth sense tells me another guy is coming in from my right blindspot. I vault backwards, throw down a bomb, switch to my Assault rifle and unleash a hail of fire upon the guy who's now entered my vision.. his shield flickerking to my satisfaction of a well placed grenade and his end as my bullets tap his helmut.
It's honed basics allow you to make the game as simple or as complex as you like. And if you and friends invest the time, you can build a rhythm and tactics that are pretty unstoppable.
And HALO being only the most bare basics of "you get this gun and shoot this monster.... IN SPACE!" my mind easily builds the surrounding universe and it does have me wanting to explore it some more. Not unlike Mass Effect. Sooooo, I'm looking forward to the expanded franchise and other games that may come.
Well...... as long as it's not a prequel or RTS.... then you don't get my money. HALO 3: Recon, just baaaaaaaarely gets past the prequel mark with me as it's a side story... I'll allow it, but I just hope HALO doesn't get caught up in it like Star Wars did.
Anyway... HALO rules and I'm just sayin'.
Good night, folks.
I don't know about you... but I'm ready to drop.
