Agent Michael Thorton is a BadAss... aka Alpha Protocol - Talkback

I managed to sit down with the game for a few hours last night and today, and I have to say that despite the (entirely valid) criticism that the game has been receiving, I'm wholeheartedly enjoying it.

If you like spy moves/novels the story is surprisingly good, with considerable branching paths in the story, though the action puts you in the same place no matter what paths you take. the characters are extremely well written and acted, it's just a shame that a few game play flaws are holding it back from what this game could have been. Poor enemy AI, very... odd guess is a good word... sneaking animations, and the curse of the invisible dice of fate causing a perfectly lined up head shot to miss and alert a room of guards (which has doomed me on more than one occasion) make me wonder just what was being improved upon for the games 8 month delay.

Still, looking past the games flaws the story is more than enough to keep me addicted, and I'm looking forward to seeing just how much change a different set of choices will have on a future play through.

For the record, I'm playing through as a recruit. Fresh out of training, with no real skills to my name, sneaking around and just beating the **** out of everyone physically since my guns always miss.

I've been looking forward to this game. Even had it pre-ordered, until they pulled that whole "we're gonna announce a delay on the day we were supposed to release it" move...which is for the best I suppose, since I'm not exactly in a position to buy it at the moment. Still, I'd like to at least give it a rent to see if it's worth grabbing once the price drops some.

I've heard hearsay that the game can be kinda buggy at times. Now tell me, are these bad "this makes me want to stick the game disc in a blender" bugs or are they good "that was so ridiculous I can't stop laughing" bugs?

I really haven't come across any game breaking bugs yet. I've had instances where an enemy is running against the corner of a wall refusing to step that one inch sideways to keep moving. Instances where the fact that it is an RPG with imaginary % dice cause perfectly lined shots to miss miserably, and one REALLY annoying mini game for hacking a computer that makes my eyes bleed, but honestly, nothing especially game breaking, but than I'm only about 6 hours into the game, so there very well could be worse things later on. I did have an interesting boss fight there I was almost killed by a sub boss in a first fight on a bridge, only to survive a battle with a small army and a tank with less than 5hp left and never getting touched once, so I guess %s work both ways at least.

Agent Michael Thorton is a BadAss

So would say he's up there with Sam Fisher & Solid Snake?

I played the game a little bit last night, & I love it! My only gripe, the computers I have to hack are a real pain & disabling the alarm systems aswell. The time limit they give you on what's getting on my nerves when I come across these things. I'm just not fast enough & I love to take my time when doing hacking or disabling stuff like that.

If you up your sabotage it makes hacking much easier by giving you more time and less chance of triggering an alarm if you fail.

Honestly mt Michael Thorton it played more like Michael Weston than and traditional fictional covert op.

I've been interested in this game since trailers of it came out...would you say it's worth the investment?

It's worth it to me, but I didn't pay for it. I'd say it'd definitely be worth purchase after a price drop. If you're into spies and espionage stories though than yeah, I'd go for it. I got the PC version which I think looks better than the PS3 and versions.
