A rant on Kamen Rider fans

The original Godzilla IS a good movie it's true...but it lacks excitement. There are long sections of that movie where scientists just argue back and forth about movie-science bullshit. Though if you watch the dub you can at least laugh at the lip-syncing during those parts.

I think this says more about you than it does the movie.

Not really. I'm a lifelong Godzilla fan, started out watching the original and kept on going. I've just never liked the Oxygen Destroyer plot device. It doesn't make sense.

Anyway, I said that not so much as a personal opinion but as a prediction of what an audience reaction might be to a movie with a lot of slow, contemplative scenes. The original Godzilla doesn't strike me as as much of a good crowd-viewing movie as one of the Vs. ones, or yes, Rurouni Kenshin.

Yeah. People should be able to do what they want without others saying it's a waste of time. Like, maybe, use the Bible as a textbook for biology.

I mean, who needs "accuracy". I just need to entertain myself with a nice story that looks cool but is more likely to be incorrect.

It was when we we're watching the original Ultraman show. They made references to thee proton beams when the characters were shooting the leaser beams. I hope if we do another Toku theme week for next year that we will show the more modern stuff. I love the classics, but I don't the Showa stuff is the right way to introduced people into Toku.

I thinking showing Gokaiger, W, Ginga or Nexus, Garo and GMK will be good choices to show off. We almost watch the 1954 Godzilla movie, but everyone voted for the Rurouni Kenshin live action movie instead.

Well, I did managed to get my club to watch the live action movie of Cromartie High School. However, because there was a significant amount of partial MALE nudity, the higher ups of the club, some of which were major yaoi fans, cut the viewing off before the part where Dr. Gori arrives.

See, I get what you're trying to do, but its not working for a couple reasons. Chiefly of which is that I'm not a TV-Nihon fanboy, I'll watch whatever and I have my compliments and complaints about all of the fansub groups. I just think the arguing between the fanboys needs to stop because its starting to bleed into every discussion and I'm sick of it. No ones going to change anyones minds and the fanboys need to stop worrying about how everyone else chooses to watch their toku.

Some people aren't bothered by the miniscule amount of extra work it takes to fully comprehend their subs. I know people who prefer it actually. And just because they feel that way doesn't mean their less intelligent or anything like that; in fact, it doesn't make any majorly declarative statement about them at all.

Basically what I'm trying to get at here is that I'm really sick and tired of fans putting down other fans over absolutely ludicrous things like their fansub preferences. It doesn't involve you in any legitimate way, and is quite frankly none of your fucking business.

You're welcome to have your own opinions and feelings, but if you're just going to weaponize them and use them to insult other users I feel like your time might be better spent running face first into a brick wall for all the good you're doing.

Seriously, though: Calling out a product for its faults does not in any way bring its consumers down. And lumping the critics of a product into one-mass of haterdom no matter what their reasons are is just as bad as what you're rallying against in that post. I won't address specific sub-talk as that has been argued about in other threads ad nauseam and this is not the place for that.

The point is: Why should we take our fandom quite seriously to the point of taking offense? If you're in it for reasons you understand, then you should be pretty secure in it.The problem is if you're a literal fan of something: That is, you don't really know why you like it; i.e. you're a fanatic. Simply by not understanding why you like something, you're doing a huge disservice to it.

If I really love bacon and my brother tells me that it's utterly unhealthy and I should avoid it, should I be offended? No, because my brother is just making a statement of fact, and I know exactly why I love bacon. I should be grateful to him because he's concerned for my health, but Im going to stick to my bacon, thanks.

In summary we should understand that "really liking" is exactly the same as "really not liking", except that they're polar opposites. You can't reasonably expect people to respect your liking of something if you can't respect their not liking it. And I admit, it's really hard to do and I've crossed the line many times, but I think we should all at least be aware of it.

PS. On a more direct note to you, LazerWolfX that I hope won't offend: This is why I find it odd that you do what you do. You take this white knight stance for something you say you're not a fan of. That doesn't make any sense to me at all. I'd understand it if you didn't lump anyone who makes a critical observation into the "hater" category, but you do, you become aggressively defensive, and I don't know why. It's just paradoxical.

Or rather more accurately: I understand what you're trying to do, but you're doing it in a way that, to me, contradicts the philosophy behind what you're doing.
