FENTON, Mo. -- A legally blind man was credited with saving a woman after authorities said a 45-year-old man broke into her apartment on Saturday night. Authorities said the man, a convicted rapist, was waiting for the woman to return home from work.
A neighbor who asked to be identified only as Jerry heard noises coming from the apartment. Jerry is blind in his left eye and has about 25 percent vision in his right eye.
Jerry told KTVI-TV that he went to the apartment and kicked open the door, surprising the would-be attacker, who locked the door. The woman came home and confirmed she didn't know the man in her apartment, and police took the suspect away.
The man was charged with burglary. The investigation is continuing.
Legally blind is generally the term used when you still have some sight, but little enough to do things like drive etc. Legally they are considered to have bad enough sight to not be able to do a lot of things. Many don't work though that's not always the case. My grandmother, soon to be mother-in-law, and soon to be step-mom are all legally blind. My step mom would be the only one who works though she can't drive. She lives near her work and walks there (though now that she has my dad he will drive her from time to time if he's home). She's doing teaching and can see better than the other too so she can still read and etc though it's REALLY hard for her and she gets bad headaches from it.
That's pretty awesome though. He heard him totally cause he has better hearing. My step mom has freaky hearing sometimes! lol she's like "Oh, there's *insert something no one else can come CLOSE to hearing yet*' Ie. the buzzer in the kitchen. She hears it clicking on to buzz like ten seconds before the buzzer goes off lol
LOL! I was kind of confused to. Like...why did he kick the door down just because he heard noises? Was the guy just IN her apartment and she wasn't there yet?
