“Like Flowers” in Sand” is Korean drama series released in 2023, has 12 episodes, and can be categorized as Sports, Coming-of-Age, Romance, and Comedy (Rom-Com); streaming on Netflix. SUMMARY: Kim Baek-du has spent years of vying for a championship title. He was even considered a prodigy. But no he wants to leave the sport of ssireum, or traditional Korean wrestling. What’s the use in trying? Everybody can’t be a GOAT (Greatest of All Time) in sports. ♦ If I Don’t Win, I’m Retiring In “Like Flowers in Sand”, it’s the 2023 Dano Ssireum Championship. At one time, Kim Baek-Du, was known as the “emperor of ssireum”. Now he’s 32 years old, and still in good shape. But when people talk about him they say that he “was” at one time a rising star. That’s kind of a bummer for people to introduce you that way to the audience. It’s almost like they’re saying that your glory days are over! Why are you even in the game? Kim Baek-Du doesn’t drink alcohol. Everybody knows that when he does he says dumb things and then blacks out. He never remembers anything. I loved seeing Kim Baek-Du grapple (pun intended!) with his fading dream and the pressure to live up to his past. We've all been there, right? Stuck in a rut, questioning our choices.

But then there's Oh Yu-Gyeong, this enigmatic woman who throws his world into chaos. Is she or isn't she his childhood friend? And what's her deal anyway? The mystery surrounding her kept me guessing the whole time.

And let's not forget the bromance between Baek-Du and Cho Seok-Hui! Their friendship is hilarious and heartwarming. They always have each other's backs, even when they're making terrible decisions

Sports dramas? Ugh, not my jam. But wait, a wrestler who wants to QUIT? Now that's kinda cool. Feeling stuck in a sport you used to love? Been there, done that. Plus, there's some mystery with his childhood buddy who might be back? Second chance at friendship, maybe even love? Okay, okay, I'm sold. Learning about a new sport called Ssireum? Bonus points for education! Gotta check the trailer, see if this underdog story throws some punches (metaphorically speaking).

OMG! Finally someone's talking about "Like Flowers in Sand"!! I devoured that show in, like, two days. Look, I get not being into sports, but trust me, this is SO much more than wrestling. It's about chasing dreams, facing your fears, and finding your thing. Kim Baek-Du's struggle is SO real, even if you've never wrestled a cow (or whatever they do in that sport).

Plus, the side characters are amazing! Cho Seok-Hui, the cop who's also Baek-Du's BFF? Hilarious! And the whole mystery with Oh Yu-Gyeong/Du-Sik? Had me guessing until the very end. Oh, and the romance? So sweet and supportive. None of that annoying back-and-forth drama.

This show is a hidden gem. Funny, heartwarming, with a good dose of competition. Don't sleep on it!

This drama has everything: wrestling, mystery, romance, and even a touch of comedy! The main character's struggles are relatable, and the supporting characters provide plenty of laughs. The ending is bittersweet, but it leaves you wanting more.

While "Like Flowers in Sand" is a well-made drama with a strong cast, it falls short of being truly exceptional. The pacing is uneven, and the plot feels a bit convoluted at times. The ending is satisfying, but it doesn't quite justify the journey.
