Squid Game: The Challenge – Reality TV That Proved Everyone Wrong Two years ago, Netflix announced Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality TV spin-off of its global megahit Squid Game. Critics and self-appointed moral guardians were quick to declare it a disgrace. They argued that turning the deadly satire of capitalism into a game show was tone-deaf, preachy fans claimed they would boycott it, and some even declared it would flop. Oddly enough, fans of MrBeast, who had previously recreated Squid Game in a YouTube video (with no permission from Netflix), accused the platform of copying him—a bizarre claim since Netflix owns Squid Game. Source. MrBeast has since launched Beast Games, a similar concept with a heavy influencer twist. Despite the drama, Squid Game: The Challenge turned out to be a huge ratings success for Netflix. It’s proof that even without real deaths, people still love high-stakes competition. Instead of gunshots, eliminated players get “killed” by black ink bombs hidden in their shirts, which explode in dramatic fashion when they’re out—because nothing says “you’re done” like a surprise blast of squid-colored goo. I think it’s interesting how people were so quick to judge this show before even seeing it. Squid Game: The Challenge didn’t glorify violence. It removed the life-or-death stakes and focused on real strategy and psychology. That’s what made it fun to watch. Mai Whelan winning was a surprise, but it also showed that brains can beat brawn. I’m looking forward to Season 2, especially this six-legged pentathlon. Sounds chaotic but exciting. I hope they include more international players this time. It’s better when the group has different cultures and strategies.

I’ve noticed that a lot of hardcore Squid Game fans online are very negative about The Challenge, but honestly, I think they’re just a loud minority. If you only read Reddit threads or Twitter replies, it feels like everyone hates it—but then you look at the viewership numbers and realize millions are watching and enjoying the show. Facebook comments are the same, very reactive and emotional. But most regular viewers aren’t even posting online. They just watch, enjoy, and move on. Not everything needs to be a deep social critique. Some people just want to see creative games and real competition. I liked Season 1 and I’m looking forward to Season 2.

Mai winning was like the biggest plot twist ever. I thought it would be some young fitness influencer. But no, it was a 55-year-old woman who probably meditates and reads books. I loved that. The ink bomb thing is so over-the-top it made me laugh every time. And now they’re doing a six-legged race? Sounds like something my school made us do in PE class. I’m here for it. Hope Season 2 keeps the drama but skips the fake crying.

I think the people who are angry about this just want to feel superior. The show didn’t hurt anyone. It’s just a competition with creative visuals. The black ink effect was a smart way to simulate elimination without violence. I think Season 2 will improve on Season 1’s weak points. For example, some episodes dragged because the games were too simple. Now that they’re taking inspiration from Seasons 2 and 3 of the original show, I hope we see smarter game design.

At first, I thought this show was in bad taste. The original Squid Game was about the cruelty of capitalism. Turning that into a game show felt wrong. But I gave it a chance, and it was... better than I expected. They didn’t make it violent. They focused on tension, not blood. It became more about strategy and trust. I’m still unsure how I feel, but I’ll watch Season 2 before making final judgment. The teaser with the six-legged challenge has me curious.

They have to bring in that crazy honeycomb challenge from Season 2 of the drama—the one with the nightmare multi-triangle shape! That thing looked impossible. I was stressed just watching it. If they put that in The Challenge, I want to see how real people deal with it under pressure. No edits, just shaky hands and panic. It would be hilarious and intense at the same time. That shape alone could eliminate half the cast in one round!

People kept saying they wont watch the show but the Squid Game subreddit is most active when this reality show is on
