Limited Run Games has turned their reprinting machine toward N64 cartridges in recent years. We almost missed our chance to discuss their latest, but today’s the last day to get a new copy of “BattleTanx.” It’s worth noting this game is not rare or expensive secondhand, so why would LRG think producing new carts at new-game prices would be a surefire bet? Well…this isn’t any ordinary third-party also-ran. BattleTanx came out in early 1999 for the N64 and is considered one of the cult classics for the system, for the sole reason that party games that give you an entire TANK to blast your friends with are fun. It has a solo mode that’s no slouch either, spiced up with THE most ridiculous, most campy backstory any N64 game ever had. Get this: BatleTanx takes place in an apocalyptic world where a majority of the female population is dead, due to a virus that only affected women. If you’re about to ask how that’s possible, save your questions ’til the end. While all this happened and society was crumbling, our hero, a macho meat-man by the name of “Griffon Slade,” was proposing to his girlfriend Madison, one of the few […]

Man, BattleTanx! That takes me back. Remember those crazy N64 party games? Blowing your friends up with tanks was pure, chaotic fun. I might have to grab a copy for old time's sake, even though I have a used one collecting dust somewhere. Though, gotta admit, the story sounds a little... out there. Virus that only kills women? Come on, guys. Still, for a good laugh and some tank-tastic action, BattleTanx is hard to beat.

Limited Run doing BattleTanx? Now that's interesting. I wouldn't call it a "rare" game, but a sealed copy would be a nice addition to the collection. Especially with that crazy backstory! A post-apocalyptic world with "Queenlords" ruling gangs? Sounds like someone went a little overboard in the writer's room. Still, gotta respect the commitment to camp. Plus, who wouldn't want to play a game where you save your kidnapped fiance by blowing stuff up in a tank?

Limited Run, huh? Gotta wonder how many copies they're making. Don't want to miss out on a potential collector's item, but also don't want to pay a fortune for something I could probably find used. Maybe I'll wait and see if the price drops on the aftermarket. In the meantime, I can always check out some online reviews to see if the gameplay holds up.

Look, the story might be a little goofy, but hey, sometimes you just want to blow off some steam and have some tank-based fun with friends. BattleTanx sounds like it could be a good laugh, especially with that over-the-top plot. And who knows, maybe the gameplay is surprisingly deep. Used copies might be cheaper, but a brand new one could be a cool collector's item someday. I might just have to check it out!
