You'll Soon Have The Chance To Chat With M3GAN, But Only In A Specific Place

Blumhouse is gearing up for its “Halfway To Halloween” series of theatrical re-releases from its library. This year they’ve got M3GAN (April 30), Annabelle (May 7) and Ma (May 14) lined up. To attract attention they’ve announced a little promotional gimmick…in the age of chatbots it only makes sense to let people talk to the real M3GAN. There’s one problem, however. M3GAN refuses to appear just anywhere, or talk to any slob. Please. You wanna talk to M3GAN? YOU gotta come to HER. And the only place she’ll agree to do it in…is her own movie. Talk about a diva. Apparently if you go to this M3GAN rescreening on April 30, open your phone to Instagram and DM M3GAN’s account, she will answer back, but she’ll somehow know if you’re not watching her movie (M3GAN has powers no one knows of). Assuming you are, you won’t just be able to chat with M3GAN, but you’ll receive “never-before-seen content, trivia, and behind the scenes info on the film in real time.” But wait a minute. Isn’t opening your phone in a crowded movie theater something you’re…not supposed to do? Didn’t an M&M warn us about that or something? Well, that’s what […]

This sounds super cool to me. I love it when movies try new tech ideas. If M3GAN can really tell you're watching or not, that's a fun kind of creepy. I like the idea of chatting with her and getting secret stuff while I’m at the movie. I mean yeah, using your phone in a theater is usually bad, but if the movie is telling you to do it, that changes things, right? I’ll just sit in the back so I don’t bother anyone.

So let me get this straight. I have to buy a movie ticket, go to a theater, watch M3GAN again, and then maybe I get a few trivia facts from a chatbot pretending to be her? Hard pass. If M3GAN really has all these powers, she can come to me. I’m not moving for a robot with attitude. I’ll wait for someone to post the screenshots online.

I actually tried DMing M3GAN on Twitter a while ago just to see what would happen, and yeah—her account is definitely a chatbot. She replies almost instantly, and the responses feel kind of scripted but still fun. It’s not super deep or anything, but she stays in character the whole time. If the Instagram version during the screening is similar, I think people will enjoy it. Just don’t expect a real conversation. It’s more like a spooky chatbot performance.

Okay but imagine if she roasts you mid-movie. Like you send her a message and she replies, “You blinked at the wrong time.” I’d actually be into that. I like dumb, silly stuff like this. M3GAN’s personality is what made her fun, so if she’s gonna trash talk people from the screen and online, I’m here for it. I don’t care if it’s kind of distracting. I think we all need to chill sometimes and have fun.

You just know Chucky is somewhere fuming right now. His show got cancelled and now M3GAN's out here doing live chats during her own movie? That’s next level. He used to be the top doll in horror, but now she’s got the spotlight, the fans, and a sequel coming. Poor guy’s probably dying of jealousy—his little plastic heart can’t take it.

I think this is a clever idea, but it also feels like a trap. You’re literally being told to break the theater rules so you can talk to a killer robot. I can already see someone getting yelled at for turning on their phone. But I’ll be honest, if M3GAN is replying in real-time, I’d be tempted. I just hope the responses are actually interesting and not some boring promo texts

Honestly, this is the kind of strange promotion I live for. M3GAN being a diva and demanding people to watch her movie just to get her attention? That’s funny to me. I don’t even like horror much, but I kind of want to go just to see what she says. I don’t mind using my phone in theaters if it’s part of the experience. People can look away if it bothers them.

I’m going to that rescreening for sure. I loved M3GAN when it first came out, and I’m super curious about this interactive thing. If she gives cool trivia and behind-the-scenes info, I think that’s worth checking out. I’ll probably sit in the back so I don’t annoy anyone with my phone. They should’ve made it a private showing just for the fans who want to talk to her.

Wait, so M3GAN is basically doing a live commentary through Instagram? That’s kind of amazing. If it’s really her personality and not just a basic chatbot, this could be fun. I think it adds to the weirdness of the character. I just hope they give a warning before the movie starts, like, “Yes, you’re allowed to use your phone this time.” Otherwise people will get annoyed fast.
