“Dare to Love Me” is a Korean drama TV series released in 2024 with 15 episodes, based on a webtoon of the same name, and categorized as Romance and Comedy (Rom-Com). An alternate title is “Treat Me Carelessly”. ♦ Before Dreams and Love, the Country’s Cultural Heritage Must Be Protected In “Dare to Love Me”, Shin Yoon Bok (Kim Myung-soo), is a young man in the 21st century who aspires to become a webtoon writer. However, the story begins with an illegal auction taking place. People are buying Korea’s cultural heritage items on the black market. Business is booming and Shin Yoon Bok has been sent on a special assignment to discover who’s been trafficking in these illegal goods, recover the items, and return them to their rightful place. Shin Yoon Bok comes from Seongsan Village, a World Heritage Site, which is a community that adheres to the conservative values of Korea’s Joseon Dynasty. Many visitors from around the world come to see this place but do not venture further

I appreciate "Dare to Love Me" for highlighting the importance of cultural heritage through the Seongsan Village and Shin Yoon Bok's mission. It’s refreshing to see a drama that intertwines modern aspirations with traditional values. However, I hope the series doesn’t overdo the romantic clichés, as indicated by the South China Morning Post's "wonky" description. If handled well, it could be a great narrative on balancing tradition with modernity, but if not, it might just fall into the trap of being another predictable rom-com.

Kim Hong-Do's story hits home for me. It's so relatable to see someone trying to overcome workplace mistreatment and a misunderstood relationship. Her journey to becoming a fashion designer, despite all the setbacks, is truly inspiring. I'm curious to see how her interactions with Shin Yoon Bok, someone with a completely different background and mission, will impact her life. Their accidental meetings and evolving relationship could bring both healing and growth for her, which is something I’m really looking forward to watching.

"Dare to Love Me" was an absolute gem! The depiction of Seongsan Village and its efforts to preserve Joseon Era aesthetics was fascinating and well-integrated into the storyline. Shin Yoon Bok's dedication to his mission and his dream of becoming a webtoon writer was inspiring. Kim Hong-Do’s journey was equally compelling, and seeing her overcome personal and professional challenges was very moving. The romance was sweet and didn’t overshadow the cultural narrative. This series is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates K-dramas with depth and substance.

I really enjoyed "Dare to Love Me" for its humor and lighthearted moments. The awkward encounters between Shin Yoon Bok and Kim Hong-Do were hilarious and added a lot of charm to the series. The subplot involving the stolen cultural artifacts kept things interesting, and the setting of Seongsan Village provided a beautiful backdrop. While the romance was predictable, it was still heartwarming. If you're looking for a fun and engaging K-drama with a bit of history thrown in, this one’s definitely worth watching!

Another predictable rom-com with a thin plot hidden behind a "cultural heritage" veil? Sounds cliche. Guy protects historical artifacts, girl gets walked all over at work, they meet cute, fall in love. Yawn. The "Little Joseon" village concept seems interesting, but will it just be a backdrop for cheesy romance tropes? Give me some strong characters and a unique story, not just another recycled rom-com formula.
