As promised one week ago, Sony’s follow-up State of Play went live this afternoon and was all about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — the hotly anticipated middle chapter of the FF7 saga that arrives at the end of this month. We didn’t learn much that was new, but we saw a lot of new visuals. All the major areas of the game were revealed as well as what you can do in them.

I watched the demo, and the way the soundtrack perfectly captures the mood of a horror film as Sephiroth spirals into madness in both the reactor and Shinra manor sequences was even more terrifying and gave me the chills.

Well, it seems Square Enix has struck a balance with the demo progress transfer. Skipping the Nibelheim chapter in the full game is a relief for those who've already spent considerable time there. As for Junon, while it's a shame progress won't carry over due to alterations, it does promise a fresh experience, which is always welcome.

As someone who has been following the Final Fantasy series for many years, the added awards from prior titles are a welcome nod to long-time fans. It's like reuniting with old pals when you can bring summon materia from prior travels into this new one. It's exciting to see Square Enix combine nostalgia for the original game with new components in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The promise of a larger open world and additional dialogue options adds layers of richness to the experience, keeping gamers interested beyond the core storyline.

The decision to release the demo just a week before the full game's launch is an interesting move, especially with the addition of the Junon area later on. While it might disrupt progress transfer for some, it does build anticipation and offers a taste of what's to come.
