Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Final Trailer And Demo

-

As promised one week ago, Sony’s follow-up State of Play went live this afternoon and was all about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — the hotly anticipated middle chapter of the FF7 saga that arrives at the end of this month. We didn’t learn much that was new, but we saw a lot of new visuals. All the major areas of the game were revealed as well as what you can do in them.

For all the speculation about how Square might change FF7’s storyline, most of the clips we saw here imply it will largely follow the same plot beats. There may be a few new characters, but your goal is still to stop Sephiroth from acquiring the Black Materia and all the major places you visit will have the events happen that occurred in the original. However, Square is promising this time, the world will be more open and you can go pretty much anywhere from the start (and there will be a lot more distractions from the main story than before).

The Gold Saucer dating scene is intact, which means yes, you’ll be able to make dialogue choices throughout the game that affect the characters’ opinion of you. If there’s someone in particular you want on that date, tell them positive things (and neg everybody else just to be sure). Square says there will be more possibilities for who knocks on Cloud’s door than before.

Not only is there a new trailer tonight, the demo we’ve been begging for is finally live. You’ll need a PS5 to play it, and a lot of patience (it’s 48 GB) but your progress will carry over to the final game…WITH AN ASTERISK. Square plans on adding the Junon area to the demo on February 21, and this portion will be altered in such a way that compatibility with the final game is not possible. Weird thing to do a week before release.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth hits Playstation 5 on February 29.
