We’re getting closer to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which means a new trailer — and while said trailer doesn’t provide much in the way of new information, Square also released a full article on its own website that reveals who’s new, what they can do and what else to expect.
Yuffie and Cait Sith will both be joining the team…presumably we’ll get Yuffie first as in the original game, you could meet her as early as pre-Junon. Nothing much has changed here: she has a gigantic throwing star and she tosses it a lot, and she also has a “Doppelganger” move where she brings out a weird-looking doll of herself that she can control, attacking enemies for double the amount of damage. Cait Sith was the “gambling” party member (that used to be standard for RPGs in the 90s) where his moves were controlled by rolling slots. The trailer doesn’t indicate that’s still the case, but Square does say his moves “can hurt enemies or buff allies, but most rely on luck in some way.”
In case you wondered where Elena the Turk was in Remake, they were saving her for this one. “Though she may be a rookie, she’s as skilled with her fists and a gun as anyone else in the Turks unit of Shinra’s General Affairs Division,” says Square. One character no one’s ever seen before is Captain Titov, the leader of the Shinra-8 (that’s the name of the ship Cloud and friends sneak onto at Junon). Square says Titov has “earned a sterling reputation among his crew, thanks to his unerring devotion to his duties. This is most evident during the various festivities held aboard his vessel, which he personally – and passionately – emcees.” That makes it sound like there’ll be more to do on the ship than wander around, talk to people, and observe Red XIII’s wacky hind-legs walk (that better still be in there, guys).
